Tuesday: Posting Again

Back from vacation in which I did keep up on baseball, but didn't make any plays. Considering the ugly start, now happy that I'm 12-14, - 1.28 units. (7-3 in last 10)

Colorado +112. ML. One unit. Erlin is the HOT pitching prospect for SD. He's a tough lefty, but he's young and he'll have games like this where he faces a very good hitting(vs. LHP) Rockies team. The Rockies lead the mlb vs. LHP at a .315 BA. Their lineup hits better in Coors, but can hit period. The Padres lineup is slow to get going this year, and has far too many guys that whiff often. They once again have on of the weakest 2-6 hitters in the majors. It's not just Petco, it's a combination of young players, lack of hitting talent, inconsistent established players and poor power(last in NL in slug. pct vs. RHP). Nicasio has had 2 starts in Coors, and unlike past years, has shown very good command. Pitching in Petco vs. the Padres has to be much easier than what he usually has to face. The Rockies BP is average at best, but have enough competent bodies that they can finish vs. this SD lineup.

SF/ LAD-over 4 (First 5) -115. One unit. The West Coast teams used to trot out great starter after great starter. Not in this game. Believe it or not, Beckett has the edge here. Lincecum seems a far bigger mess now. His mechanics are off, and have been into spring training. He pitches worse when pitching from the stretch, and basically looks like a rookie trying to nibble around and pitching himself in and out of jams. Furthermore, the Dodgers are starting to hit a bit better, leading the NL in OPS now vs. RHP. Beckett actually had decent velocity his last outing, was undone somewhat by Dodger fielding, but is still the same pitcher he has been the last 2-3 years, which is average or a bit worse. Another factor here is that both teams have seen these 2 pitchers plant, and that always helps the hitter more than it helps the pitcher.
