Right now, you get to choose 1 point guard to lead your team in the NBA playoffs.

I'm not talking Lebron KD.. I mean pure point guards....

Who is the Point Guard you are taking? It's not about future, it's about right now, best pure point guard in the NBA....

I think Paul is overrated to a degree, he hasn't won shit. What, one playoff series in his career that he's won?

I'd take Westbrook and maybe even Curry ahead of him. Just my personal opinion.

Can you please state for the Record the list of 7 point guards you listed before CP3 in our previous conversation. (<)<

OK fine I'll say it so I get trashed here. In our original conversation I said I could name 4 point guards I would take over CP3. I was really just talking shit but I came up with Westbrook, Curry, Parker, and Deron Williams.

I stand by my statement that Paul is overrated. He may be best but it's not head and shoulders anymore.

I see your point Harry.

Some guys are just more polarizing than others for whatever reason. The fact he is 6ft, plays the game so efficiently, always makes the "correct" play probably is why he doesn't get criticized. Williams is a good ways behind that group but yeah depending on what happens the next 2 months he could definitely go down a notch. This is probably the first year where if CP3s team underachieves he will get legitimately criticized for it.

Just saying gun to my head if I had to win a playoff series and pick 1 PG i'd pick him right now

Also CP3 has won 2 playoff series in his career!

I'd choose Curry, Westbrook, and Kyrie Irving over CP3. Also think Parker is at least tied with CP3.

Yeah Williams is an admitted stretch, I like him from his Illinois days so I always tend to rate him up higher than he should be. :)

kyrie irving not even close...had a terrible year and is awful defensively, stock has fallen a lot

Would take like 5 guys that werent mentioned over him probably

Never been a huge Tony Parker fan. Always plays well when the Spurs kill people, really never plays well when they need him to for the most part. He's a top PG but I also think he gets too much credit for the Spurs success and Manu Ginobili too little. He is good but the elite PGs I think are better.

Westbrook isn't a pure PG by any means, he's the definition of the combo guard... If you want him handling the ball all the time, then you're asking for a disorganized offense... Westbrook turns the ball over 4.5 times per 36 minutes of play! That's the highest in the league among point guards. Correction, its the HIGHEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE! A PG that turns the ball over is the last thing you want. If I'm depending on my PG to be a true PG, turnovers is the very last thing I want him to lead the league in. I rather have a nonscoring PG than one that turns it over...

Next....

Okay the true point guard...
Curry, I'll take you on there... Again, it's all about turnovers.... 3.7 TO pur 36 mins... Oh, want per game stats, Russell Westbrook and Steph Curry are tied for #1 in the NBA in most TO per game.... Problem with Curry is he gets too fancy... This team misses Jarrett Jack, the backup point guard... When Curry gained more of a the PG touches his turnovers soared. He's not the best ball handler....

using TOV% per 100 possessions, Paul turns it over 12 times, Westbrook and Curry 16 times, 33% MORE TOS...

If you're going to turn the ball over, you better get steals.

Steph Curry 1.6 steals a game and per 36 mins... Stephen ranks 82nd in the league in steals per 36mins... Steph cost you 2 possessions a game..
Russell Westbrook 1.9 steals a game, 2.2 per 26 mins... Westbrook per 26 mins will cost you nearly 2.5 possessions...

My homie Cp3... Leads the NBA in Steals per 36 mins and per game with around 2.5, 2.6 steals....He only turns it over 2.3 times. So he's going to get you an extra possession.

So far, CP3 takes care of the ball much better, and creates far more turnovers...

So whats the other job of a point, distribute the ball and lead the offense.
Chris Paul lead the league with 10.7 assist - the runner up with a min of 25 games... 8.8 assist. that's a 2 assist per night more than the 2nd best!

Your boy Curry does a good job with 8.5, but Westbrook 6.9 and Westbrook has KD as a side kick.
Again, not close, CP3 is the cream of the crop in the NBA as far as assist. In fact, over 5 years the only people in the NBA to better the 10.7 mark per game, Rondo and Nash....

So lets go scoring...
Chris Paul averages 19.1 ppg 14 FGA a game
Curry 23.7 ppg and 17.7 FGAttempts a game
Westbrook 21.8 ppg and 17.2 FGA a game

Curry is the much better shooter. And 4.6 ppg more than Paul is significant. but he also need nearly 4 more touches a game.

If only there was some advanced metric that measures efficiency. Wait there is...

Player efficiency rating:
Chris Paul #1 among point guards... Westbrook and Curry are 2, 3, but at 25.9 CP efficency rating is over a point higher than even the next closest guard..

Lets take a look at ORtg, an estimation per 100 possession that a player produces... This is the ultimate tool to value PG with advanced analytics.. Paul produces 125 points per 100 possessions.. thats more than Lebron and KD...

Curry 117
Westbrook 108

All Of this, and I didn't even get to individual defense, where its going to be 100% sweep that Paul is the better defender. Need proof. How about, Paul guard Curry but Curry doesn't guard Paul. Because he can't.

That post highlights a lot of why I said I'd take CP3 but Harry is right, can't just lose in rd 1 forever. At some point you have to perform to or outperform expectations in the postseason. Nobody is saying he has to win a title but they should beat GS if he is the best PG.

Only thing I disagree with is Westbrook is a PG, you can't really say what a guys position is just because he looks to shoot/score first.

"Pure" point guard? Who cares? You sound like Gary Payton.

Points contributed per game, Curry 42.3 and CP3 42.4, and Paul has Griffin to dish to. Plus the Clippers score 4 more PPG. So in other words, Curry is responsible for a higher percentage of his team's offense.

Westbrook turns it over too much? OK, I'll give you that, but I'm more interested in WINS. Westbrook led the Thunder to 5 series wins in 2011 and 2012, Paul has 2 series wins in his "storied" career. We'll see what happens this year, but as Pats said if the Clippers get knocked out by GSW we can revisit.

Look I know I'm fighting a losing battle here trying to argue that stats of this with you, cause Paul has better career stats, I'm not stupid.

If only Curry and Paul could go head to head...oh wait...SCOREBOARD

So Westbrook lead Thunder to 5 series wins, not KD the league MVP...

SCOREBOARD IS RIGHT...
GS won...

Curry.. 6 of 16.. 14 points, 7 assists 1 steal... 7 TO
Paul... 10 of 23 28 points, 8 assists... 4 steals.. 6 turnovers

So... Paul better shooting percentage, more points, more assist, more steals, less turnovers and Curry didn't have to guard Paul!!

I agree with you guys.

I will admit that Chris Paul might be the best pure point guard, but that's not saying much right now...

You would agree with them guys are better than CP3 but you will admit Cp3 might be the best pure point guard? Aren't those completely opposite things?
