When you think of solid closers in
baseball
nowadays, you probably think of someone like the Boston Red SoxKoji Uehara, the Los Angeles DodgersKenley Jansen or the Atlanta BravesCraig Kimbrel. However, you never ever hear about Miami Marlins closer Steve Cishek mainly because he is on a Marlins team who has been in the bottom of the basement for nearly a decade.

Quietly, though, Cishek is starting to gain elite closer status because of how well he has pitched lately. He picked up his third save of the season on Sunday afternoon in a 3-2
win
against the Seattle Mariners. It was his 32nd consecutive save, which extends a club record. Cishek is becoming a lockdown closer for the Marlins, who needs all the runs and wins they can get in a very tough division.

In five games this season, he has not allowed a single run to cross the plate. He has a 1.28 FIP and a 10.8 K/9. He has also only allowed two hits as well. Cishek saved 34 of the Marlins’ 62 wins last season. His ERA was only 2.52 and he led the NL in games finished with 62. Miami has a very reliable reliever in Cishek and he is someone who should be up there in the conversation with players like Kimbrel and Uehara.
The only thing hanging over his head right now is his trade value. Miami is not known for holding onto relievers after seeing Ed Mujica, Ryan Webb and Randy Choate all go in the last few years.
