It’s rather amazing to consider the past 10 Giants games have been decided by a total of 11 runs.
“Unbelievable, man,” manager Bruce Bochy said after Sunday’s 4-3 victory against the Padres. “I’ve been on a few runs where we’ve played tight games, but never like this.”
To sustain any kind of success during that kind of run, the bullpen has to be money. Fortunately for the Giants, their relief corps has been Fort Knox. With three shutout innings Sunday, all in a one-run game, the bullpen lowered its majors-leading ERA to 1.79, with 15 walks and 48 strikeouts, a 6-2 record and a closer (Sergio Romo) who is 5-for-5 in save tries.
Romo got himself into trouble Sunday by walking leadoff hitter Chase Headley in the ninth and allowing him to advance on a wild pitch, but Romo retired Yasmani Grandal, Nick Hundley and Yonder Alonso on balls in the air to end the game.
