Question for the computer guys in here! How do I get rid of this Ads By IcoConverter in Chrome? I tried to uninstall it by going under the tool bar in extensions but it seems it's locked and I can't get rid of it. It shows up IcoConverter 2.2 and says the extension can't be removed or disabled! Tried to even surf around for any fishy looking programs that may have been recently installed but found nothing. Any info on getting rid of this so I don't have to see anymore ads...

Sounds like you have adaware. Uninstall adaware from chrome and check to see if you are able to remove it from programs in your control panel. Then you will need to run adaware/malware removal program. Try malwarebytes or hitmanpro. Both are free. Then restart your computer. I'm not familiar with IcoConverter but that should be a simple way to remove it. If not you may have to remove it from your regedit but without looking it up I wouldn't be able to tell which keys to delete.

Dang you guys are fast lol... Always count on the RX for answers. The RX solving world problems one day at a time !

I never installed the program... My computer shut down the other day and after it did it just appeared. I have ran scans for any virus but nothing comes up... Couldn't find any adware programs under the control panel. I thought I may find some sketch program recently added the past couple of days but nothing showed up..

I will try your info King of Nicotine and see what happens...

Thanks for the replies fellas!

That method also works for most viruses. Rkill shuts down virus programs since some viruses are programmed to prevent the anti-virus from opening.

Free Ico Converter can be used to convert image files to ico format. It supports all the main image formats. It's an all in one ico converter and can be used as: png to ico converter, jpg to ico converter, jpeg to ico converter, gif to ico converter, bmp to ico converter. You can design your icon image in your favorite tool and then use this Free Ico Converter to convert into ico format, very convenient. To get started you can click "select file" button to select the file and click on "convert" button to start conversion or simply click on the convert button (it will detect if you already have a file name in the text box and will prompt you to select a file if haven't). The converted file will in the same folder as the original file.
Features: 1. Drag & drop supported; 2. Always on top option to be used as an always ready converter; 3. Automatic file name collision detect and rename to avoid overwrite; 4. Option to open the folder of the converted file; Download free now and start using it.

3 things I usually do forst

1) Check for any plugins, addons, or extensions and delete anything you don't want
2) Go to control panel, programs and features and uninstall anything that might be an adware application
3) Go to your options and check to see if they change the home link

if that doesn't work then you can download various free virus removal applications out there. Some off the top of my HiJackThis, TDSSKiller.

in a lot of cases when you download ( not saying he downloaded it ) when when you have a "free" program on your computer ( most times cell phone ) it is AD Supported. That's why it's Free. They need to make the money somewhere.

Exactly. I just got a new computer and downloaded FileZilla which is a reputable free software. And it installed an adware service with it. Was very easy to remove though.
