12:57 PM — No protective order was issued against Paul Simon or Edie Brickell Monday afternoon in court, Advertiser reporter Aaron Marsh reports from Norwalk. Typically after a domestic violence incident an order is issued by the court. But Judge William Wenzel agreed with Simon and Brickell — who appeared in Norwalk Superior Court holding hands on Monday — that such an order was not needed.

“The both of us are fine together,” Simon told the court. “We are going to go back home and watch our son play baseball. We had an argument. It was very atypical of us.”
Brickell later said: “I don’t feel a need to be protected from him at all.”
The celebrity couple, who have lived in New Canaan for years, requested that no photos be taken of them inside the court. But Judge Wenzel responded: “Everyone is treated the same here whether you are a famous person or in off the street.”
The couple was arraigned on disorderly conduct charges Monday. They are next due in court on Friday, May 16.

12:45 PM — Someone called 911 and hung up from Paul Simon’s New Canaan house during a dispute between him and his wife, which prompted New Canaan Police to investigate on Saturday night, April 26. Their response led to the arrest of Simon and his wife, Edie Brickell. Both were charged with disorderly conduct related to domestic violence.
New Canaan EMS was not called to the scene as there were no major injuries. The two were given summonses and released at the scene. They are expected to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Monday. Police Chief Leon Krolikowski addressed Connecticut and New York media at police headquarters on South Avenue late Monday morning, April 28.
Krolikowski gave limited details. But other officers, who spoke with the Advertiser, confirmed that the incident was at the couple’s Brookwood Lane home. After police arrived and assessed the situation, Simon agreed to stay at the couple’s Manhattan home that night. Police did not say if any of the couple’s three children were home at the time.
11:29 AM — New Canaan Police responded to Paul Simon and Edie Brickell’s house after a 911-hangup call.
A brief press release from New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski states: “On Saturday, April 26, 2014, at approximately 8:20 pm, New Canaan officers responded to a location in New Canaan to investigate a Family Dispute.”
Another officer told the Advertiser that it was “your typical dispute. Some yelling and screaming and pushing. If it wasn’t the name, it wouldn’t be this kind of deal.”
Nearly a dozen media members are in the New Canaan Police lobby awaiting a briefing from Krolikowski.
9:50 AM — Paul Simon and wife Edie Brickell were both arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Saturday night, April 26, after an apparent domestic dispute, according to New Canaan Police.
A call to police about the incident at the couple’s New Canaan house was made about 8 p.m. Saturday night, police said. But details over what were not immediately released. New Canaan Police hold a weekly press briefing with local media late each Monday morning.
Simon and Brickell, who have been married for more than 20 years, have lived in New Canaan with their three children for years. New Canaan Police did not want to release their address. Neither of their names are listed in the town tax records; but their house is in the northern section of town.
They both were scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
Simon and Harry Connick Jr., also a New Canaan resident, performed a concert to salute New Canaan first-responders last September at the high school. The concert, emceed by Brian Williams and his daughter Allison Williams, was to benefit New Canaan’s Staying Put.
Simon, an American music icon for decades, first burst on the scene as half of Simon and Garfunkel in 1964. He is regarded as one of the greatest American songwriters of all time, and his work has earned him 12 Grammys. His music and lyrics have helped to form the soundtrack of American life in the modern era.
At the benefit concert in New Canaan last fall, Simon performed “Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson,” as well as a medley of other hits, including “Hearts and Bones,” “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard” and “Slip Sliding Away.”
Brickell, 48, was the lead singer of Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, a late-1980s folk-rock band. Their debut single, “What I Am” was ranked among VH1′s “100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders.”
