I know this isn't the forum but no one ever reads the other forum....

Heres my deal... I have an extra property that I bought for a great price and I've turned it into a man cave of sorts... I've go 2-10 person casino style tables with felt, cup holders and really comfortable seats. I also have an octagon style table that I built from scratch that seats 8. I put neoprene instead of felt which is great for spilled drinks and such... I also provide food and drinks. Food is usually pizza, sandwiches, and snack food... Drinks are usually soft drinks and water with the occasional handle of bourbon and beer.... I had a buddy complaining about the rake when we play... He was drunk, so it got a little heated..... Here is my rake...

Tournament: I do not charge a rake at all... We just play it straight up and normally pass the deal.

Cash Games: most of the time we 1/2 blinds but sometimes we play 2/5 blinds.... The cash game always has a dealer.... A lot of the time I deal and the dealer is never in the game.... That's just my personal rule... My rake is 10% of the pot up to $4 max per hand.... Hell I even hook it up... Say we have a $28 hand I only rake $2.... If its a $500 hand I only rake $4.... I make no bones about it... I make it clear there is going to be a rake every cash game... We have at least one big tourney a month where I average 22-25 players and it always breaks into 2 cash games. We also play cash at least one night a week and sometimes 2-3...

I feel like its a pretty good deal for everybody... There is no juice off of any tourneys, I always have food/drinks, I provide a nice place to play and hang out, and I provide a dealer....

is my rake too steep?

Note/Advice: I have a set of personalized chips that I use for Cash play only to keep me safe and the pot right. Don't make the mistake of using the same chips you use in the tourney. Thanks for the help.

Depends on your goal.

Is your goal to make make money or is it to cover expenses?

If your goal is to make money I would charge whatever the market allows.

If your goal is to cover expenses I would just charge everyone a single cover fee when they walk in the door and go rake free the rest if the night.

hopefully these aren't your friends. You don't rake your friends if you cant afford to provide the food and drinks then don't provide it. If your trying to run an illegal business to make money then just go with what your doing

Chop I've thought that may be what I start doing with a cover charge... There are nights I don't play just to deal just to keep the game on the up and up... I hate not playing but if I'm raking I feel I need a dealer not involved in the game. The goal is to just cover expenses but lets be real there are nights I make some profit but I try to keep putting toward the game... Like buying a new table, ping pong table, or TVs.. It's a legit man cave..

Double these people are friends through poker if that makes sense... When my old school friends get together we just go play and pass the deal and have a big time with no rake... I know it's illegal but not trying to make a living... It cost a good bit of dough to feed 20 people you know....

Ive never really thought about myself as screwing people because I put a lot of money into the game but i can see where a player would think i was trying to. I think I'll just run a $10 cover and a tip your dealer type of deal and see how it goes for a while... Thanks fellas... Have a great week...

I would have no problem going somewhere else and paying a rake like I set up... It would save me a 2 hour trip to the casinos and I get fed... Different strokes for different folks though... Thanks fellas

Even if these guys are your friends it's nothing you should feel guilty about charging rake or pph. You are providing a legit service and that's worth money.

Its ts not the same thing as inviting friends over to eat.

We run a 2/5. It's 5 dollars per hand rake. Everything is provided for them. We've had 1 guy complain and is no longer welcome. If they don't like it then tell them to line a game up and go through the process of getting everything together.

I love the idea...

the rake is fine...

my only problem is...

somone gets pissed off starts a fight...calls the police...takes you down...

for what the rake...doesn't seem worth it

there is always that one (1) jag-off...never fails...

that said...I'd play @ your place... easy...sounds fun...

I play in a game whenever I am in Florida. It is pretty much a black game except for me and 2 of my friends. The games are crazy with a bunch of wild cards and shit. The guy who runs the game drags $5 out of every pot and $10 on every pot over $500. The amount of the rake is insane, but the thing about it that he plays in the game also and puts the money right back in. He is so weak of a player that in all the time I have played there he has only booked one winning night.

i personally think your take is beyond fair all things considered.

I've played in a lot of these home games with rank. the main guys house I go to, that's all he does he host games. It's his living.

No one i know has a problem with it.

Only problems I've had was with a different chick, who's a horrible human on top of it all anyways... But she would deal, rake and play.... and then when her stack would get short, she'd just take from the rake.. so IMO she wasn't putting any more money in the game...

But the final straw was when someone went all in, a very short stack, got a call, Neither were in the blinds. Short stack won. It was a small pot but when he pulled it all back and it was not close to double his stack and he won the blinds. thought that was so shitty. I left and never went over again...

All of this to say I think your rake is very reasonable.
I wouldn't even blame you for taking a cut of tournaments.

The place I play, with all addons on the tournament, he puts like 50% of add ons into a "season free roll tournament" And once it reaches $1000 top 10 point getters for the seaosn play a small free roll tourny for it.

He does other things like best hand of the night wins $X... Bad Beat of the Night wins $x.... all this stuff make it more enjoyable...

He's been going it for a long time and said cops have only came a couple times... his biggest problem he has is with parking.. the other is people smoking weed before or on breaks and the neighbors getting upset... but the one fight he had the cops overlooked it all. I know that other places do have "security"...
