Bills Marcell Dareus Arrested on Drug Possession Charges

May 7, 2014Updated May 7, 2014 at 12:06 AM EDTAlabama (WKBW) Buffalo Bills Defensive Tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested in his home state of Alabama on Monday night on drug charges including felony possession of a controlled substance.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the arrest with Eyewitness Sports Director Jeff Russo late on Tuesday. This is a statement from Sergent Steve Jarrett of the Alabama Department of Public Safety. "On May 5 at 8:30 p.m., an Alabama State Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on Interstate 20 at Exit 210, in Cleburne County. After investigating further, the trooper arrested the driver, Marcell Dareus, for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dareus was placed in the Cleburne County Jail."
WVUA-TV in Alabama reports that the substance that Dareus had in his possession was "Spice", or synthetic marijuana. Dareus posted bail and was released around 30 minutes after being taken into custody.
Bills Spokesperson Scott Berchtold released the following statement on Tuesday. "All we know right now is what we have seen in media reports and we will continue to look into this".
Dareus is a former first round pick of the Bills. He recently had his 5th year option picked up by the team.
