Went in there 3 times.

First trip to CR I was told I had to go once to see the sights. Played a couple of hands of that stupid face up blackjack game before I realized it was weird and left.

Second time I went latenight. Only spent a few minutes inside before leaving with what I came for.

Third time I went in the afternoon to get a beer at the bar. Wasn't more than 2 Imperials in when someone opened the side door and started shooting towards the slot machines. Never seen women move that fast in heels. Nobody got hurt, but that was the last time I went to the Rey.

Only when clients or friends visit. They must not break the #1 rule, do not use my real name. Just call me "Steve" from New York.

Stupid fucks can never stay in character and start sharing our life stories with the hoes...

All I need is my Tica wife to know I was there instead of the Fiesta Casino.

Three times in 8 years. Once was to have a beer with VD, ttinco and Green Doberman. We were chauffeured there in VD's orange mustang.

Thanks VD.

Place was very fun in the early 2000's. Even the mid 2000's if you went with the right people and drank with the right staff.

I used to make a point to stop by on my visits, but its not even an after thought anymore. Some of the same wait and bar staff are there from the early 2000's, when they were attractive and fun, and even worse, the working girls, except for 1%, are from the same era. The place used to refresh a bit and get new staff and "entertainers" but the same retreads have worn it out for me.

So either the new talent stopped coming because the money wasn't there or you bookmakers just married them knowing they were the best on your draft boards, LOL.

Had a lot of fun at that joint, wish it was as much fun as a decade ago.

Agree 100%......the thing now is that these girls think they are God's Gift....and a few guys I know say that Jaco is where all the hot ones are now.....that being said, I still visit and have a good time when I am there, but timshady is right, the best times are history.....I prefer to visit joints like the Pirate Club, Texas, or Alcasar when I am there....

To reiterate. The talent is in Jaco at the Cocal. Even some of the top bartending talent from HDR has made their way to Cocal to work the other side of the bar. First and foremost, theres no more money in San Jose. There is no real local gringo scene from what I understand as the government has really cracked down on undocumented sportsbook workers, leaving mainly the legal gringos, most whom are married to local women. Its still wild west compared to North America, but laws seem to be enforced a little more which cuts down on the opportunities for shenanigans. Now Jaco on the other hand is a free for all and attracts tourists with cash, and hence all the fine working girls. If you rent a boat for a couple thousand dollars in the day you aren't going to blink an eye paying the asking price from these girls. The are coming from all over Latin America to work the Cocal. Evidence can be found in the local gym as its overrun by young hard body Domincan girls in hot pants. HDR clientele has shifted more towards Ticos (who were once treated as 2nd class citizens in the bar) and Colombian men. Its still quite a busy spot, but nothing like I recall from several years ago, just more a place to drink beer and play tute and not so much for extra curricular activities. Jaco is absolutely off the charts in terms of party potential, but other than Cocal, the party starts very late. Definitely the place to go if you are looking for nightlife. Skip San Jose altogether.

This is all correct.

That makes sense, since nobody goes to CR to stay in the middle of the city. Just wish the airport was closer to the coast.

Airport to Jaco is a little over an hour. Airport to downtown San Jose is a little over 30 minutes (depending on traffic could be much longer). Not a huge difference anymore with the new highway to the coast.

Is the Sportsman's Lodge still around?

Yeah. That's one of two places I make a point to stop in and see some familiar faces when in town. They always have games on so thats a plus. There and Tango India are really the only places to go in San Jose for me anymore. I will add I stayed at the new Sheraton with that rooftop pool last time, which always made it great to come home and "get one more and check out the scene," which really meant I just knew there was an after hours I could crash and stumble down to my room after rather than hail a cab.

Stopped by there a couple of times and seemed so lame. Everyone in casino desperate and sad, girls at bar not good looking, not sure why you would pay for one of those. Go to Vertigo, El Pueblo, or San Pedro and meet some girls that you just need to buy them a beer and make them laugh then the only problem will be how to get rid of them.
