A Rutgers University quarterback - and former player for the University of Minnesota - was arrested on Sunday morning for allegedly assaulting a former Minnesota State-Mankato player who is now in critical condition.

Philip Nelson, 20, was arrested 'on suspicion of third-degree assault and underage consumption of alcohol' in Mankato, according to TwinCities.com.

Attack: Kolstad was a former linebacker celebrating his graduation on Saturday night with friends before the alleged assault took place

Nelson has been booked and is expected to be arraigned this week, according to that report.

Nelson allegedly assaulted 24-year-old former linebacker Isaac Kolstad, who the site said is in critical condition. Police found him at an intersection around 2am.

Kolstad - who has shared photos of his wife and child on social media - was a former linebacker celebrating his graduation on Saturday night with friends, his father told WCCO.

'We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support we have received during this difficult time,' Kolstad's family said in a statement. 'Isaac is a very strong and determined young man, who is dearly loved by his family and friends. We would respectfully ask for your continued prayers.'

'We are in the process of gathering information on the situation and reserve comment until the legal process is complete,' Rutgers Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason Baum said in a statement, NJ.com reports.
A vigil was held on Sunday night for Kolstad.

Police were looking for a second suspect.

They got in a fight. a college fight. Happens all the time but in this case, the black lost so it is magically posted at the Rx. Is it because they come from powerhouse Mankato St. and Rutgers? Has to be. And in this case a black violated a law.

One split second decision that will ruin multiple peoples lives. Don't kick or stomp on someones head when they are down. Apparently Nelson didn't even throw a punch, simply kicked the guy on the ground.

Yep.....that first sentence is the truth. Too bad and sad for both parties. I am sure it was a drunk argument that caused the fight.
