Smart move, GS has a good team.

Knicks are probably a wasteland for atleast 3 years

I met Kerr outside Staples Center 3 years ago. Cool guy....

You know MJ sees that news somewhere and is thinking "What is my cut of THAT?"

Very smart move. Warriors are in their prime, Knicks have to wait out some ridiculous contracts and then rebuild. Plus the lack of control you'll have with Phil Jackson there must be a deterrent.

What isn't there to like about Steve Kerr? The Western Conference just got a whole lot more interesting.

So Phil Jackson, who has no executive experience, couldn't get "his guy"

I wonder what Carmello is thinking right about now???

Kerr heading to GS was a layup. More talent, close to home/his family. I bet Dolan feels confident about that 12 mil per that he forked over to a hall of fame coach with absolutely no front office experience.

Interview with Kerr on accepting the job

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawaka...saying-no-to-phil-jackson-and-much-much-more/

Q: Did you literally make the decision today?
-KERR: I did. This morning.

Bu it was agonizing to say no to Phil Jackson. He has meant so much to me in my life and he’s had such an influence on my philosophy on the game and team-building.

When Phil asked me to coach the Knicks, my first thought was ‘How could I ever say no?’
That’s why it took me some time to sort throught my thoughts and my feelings… until I knew in my gut what was the right fit for me.

Three hours with those guys yesterday and I knew that it was the right fit.

It’s great on a family level with my daughter being up in Cal and my wife and sons in San Diego.
It’s great on a basketball level to inherit a good team and a young team with high-character players and a front office I’m already famliar with and feel very confident in and comfortable with… Yeah… it felt right immediately.
I’m glad that it all worked out the way it did.

This makes alot of sense, the guy is from the west coast and has a playoff roster.

The Knicks will go nowhere as long as Carmelo is there.

Its kind of funny that they gave Jackson all this money but refused to go to 5 years for Kerr.

If given the chance, I would choose exactly as he did. Carmello is the 2000's version of Stephon Marbury. No matter what you put around him, he will ruin you. He may score 40, but you will lose.

it may have been about money too. There were reports the Knicks didn't want to pay Kerr a star coaches salary until he proved he was a star coach

but it may be Kerr just liked the GS job more, and money didn't matter

wasn't GS talking about Van Gundy last week, and how they might be in a bidding war with Detroit?

Stephon Starbury, every team he left was better the year after he left. From MN, to Phoenix to NJ.

That speaks volumes

who wouldn't want to walk into a 50+ win team situation. I know he and Phil are close but Phil is a control freak and you have an owner in Dolan who is a meddling, over bearing type. West coast, less of a spotlight and better team make this a no brainer

Whether its players or coaches, money always matters. GS offered more money and more years, it made a difference. Phil's ego got in the way here, he figured Kerr would follow him regardless of the offer.

Agree. While the West proves much more challenging to make it even as far as a conference final, he's in a good spot to add a piece or 2 and make a run.

The Knicks situation has to be totally toxic. Don't forget that Kerr broadcasts the games with Marv and Marv & the Knicks had a big falling out. I'd imagine those two talked about how the organization is run.
