MMA: Guy is so dominating a fight to the point where he.... ---> taps out?

Mike Pantangco was absolutely dominating an amateur MMA fight when he suddenly tapped out. The move left many people scratching their heads — but it was later revealed that the move was an incredible act of sportsmanship.
“We’re amateur fighters,” Pantangco said. “We don’t get money. … and I know that the only thing I’m going to finish the fight is him to go in the hospital or get hurt. I just feel terrible so I’m just going to give him the win.”

Where's the beat down??? I see a guy still moving forward after taking everything the other guy threw at him, including a spinning back fist. Who's to say that shot that causes the guy to get "hurt" doesn't end up coming from the other direction?

Also, realize there is only 13 seconds left in the round. He would've made it through the round. Let his corner decide to throw in the towel in between rounds if needed. Their job is to protect their fighter in times like these. Not the other fighter.

He may not have been falling down, but he wasn't going to hurt the guy that tapped out without a gun.

Classy move.

He never hurt the dude, and dude took all he had.

As a Certified ABC Ref and Judge with a shit ton of fights under my belt, I can tell you now, I would've been nowhere near stopping this fight.

Personally, I would've went ahead and knocked dude out. If not, there are several submissions etc ways to end the fight without hurting the guy. take him down, pound for a sec and ref will stop it.

Bottom line, if dude is scared to hurt someone, he better pick another sport to compete in. He won't last in this one.

He hit him well a few times, but dude immediately came forward again. Took the shots like a champ IMO, and that's why you never see the ref intervene or question it either. He was pissed when dude tapped and he should be. Guy has heart. Can't teach that.

I think it's pretty cool I guess, he was definitely on his way to the W and hurting the guy. Kind of defeats the purpose of the event though. Maybe selfish too in jipping the fans? They came to see a true submission or knockout. Strange one.

It is a amateur bout - I think that with the way he fought - he can get some looks in the future. Guy didn't show power though and that can be a problem.

Best thing to do in the position he was in. Amateur fight and look at how much exposure he is getting. Overall big picture, it was the right move

Exposure because amateurs hardly get any - Yes (I think this was the hidden agenda)

best at thing to do in the position he was in - hell no! there are many ways to end a fight without hurting someone. And, if you're worried about that then you're in the wrong sport to begin with. I'm willing to bet this guy never makes it to the Pro level.

I was referring to them as one in the same. If he beats the guy, close fight or beat down, its forgotten about with in the hour. Being in a position where he appears to be easily winning, it gives his tap out even more to talk about. This has gotten more exposure than someone actually dying in the octagon. Whether this guy gets anywhere (probably not) he atleast just put himself on the map
