The memorial just recently opened. Rumor has it the museum is very well done and a must see but...

The site contains the remains of 1,115 unidentified victims which is directly adjacent to the gift shop. Families of the 9/11 victims wanted those remains put outside next to an internal flame. Now, they are upset the commercial aspect of the museum (which pays for the upkeep of the site) is taking place next to remains. They argue people are spending money on which should be, in their opinion, sacred ground.

People are really pissed about it.

I'm a little confused, if they found remains couldn't they ID the remains through DNA?

They should be. The existence of a gift shop in here is grotesque. I realize there are other memorials with Gift shops. It's wrong there also.

Well, I'm ok with gift shops unless we want to use tax dollars to maintain the museums but I can see why families are upset. Why not just move the remains outside next to an eternal flame? That would've been classy.

Interesting. I wonder if other places of tragic historical significance has gift shops.

To name a few...

JFK assassination at Daley Plaza.
Martin Luther King assassination spot.
Ford's Theater
Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor does and I've been to Ford's Theater and it does as well. Don't know about the other two.

I'm down with that.
