California Chrome owners Steven Coburn, right, and Perry Martin hold the trophy after Victor Espinoza rode California Chrome to victory in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby horse race at Churchill Downs Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Louisville, Ky.
CARSON CITY — Steve Coburn, co-owner of Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome, keeps getting richer.
On Jan. 2, the Nevadan bet an undisclosed amount at 200-1 odds that his horse would win the Derby.
A spokesman for sports and race book operator William Hill said Coburn already has collected his winnings. But the company will present a blanket for the horse on Wednesday at Sharkey’s Casino in Gardnerville.
Coburn, 60, lives in Douglas County and works a manufacturing job in Gardnerville.
California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness and is now in New York training for the June 7 Belmont Stakes, the third jewel in thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown. The last horse to win all three races was Affirmed in 1978.
