A 39-year-old coach is accused of stealing more than $40,000 from a Connecticut Little League by faking equipment orders, billing the league for clinics that were never held and keeping parents' money for hotel rooms and out-of-town expenses.
Police in Westport say the Westport Little League called them after a yearly audit showed tens of thousands of dollars were unaccounted for.
Police say Kevin Hlavac, who served as a volunteer vice president of the Little League, is accused of faking invoices, canceling equipment orders but getting paid for the items, charging the league for false clinics and not paying parents back for travel expenses.
Hlavac has also worked as a high school coach.
He is charged with first degree larceny. Authorities did not have lawyer information for him, and there was no answer at a phone listing for him.
Jeff White, the chairman of Westport Baseball & Softball, said in a statement that Hlavac has since resigned. White said the organization has improved how its reimbursements and spending are handled.
