Grant: MJ's Bulls top LBJ's Heat

With four more wins, the Miami Heat will match one of Michael Jordan's greatest feats -- three straight NBA championships -- but former Bull Horace Grant says that doesn't mean LeBron James' team could have beaten those Chicago teams.

"The Heat wouldn't have had a chance," Grant said Tuesday on WSCR-AM in Chicago. "We would have locked them up. We would have locked them up. Especially with the rules today, Michael would have had a field day."
The Heat are in their fourth straight NBA Finals and will face the San Antonio Spurs for the second year in a row. Game 1 is Thursday night in San Antonio (9 ET, ABC).

Jordan led the Bulls to three straight NBA championships from 1991 to '93 and then did it again upon coming back from retirement with three titles from 1996 to '98. The Los Angeles Lakers were the last team to win three championships in a row (2000-02).
Grant was part of the Bulls core that won the first three championships before he left as a free agent for the Orlando Magic.
Who will Grant be pulling for in these NBA Finals?

"My fingers and toes are crossed that San Antonio wins just for the fact of being a fan of [coach Gregg] Popovich and the way that organization carries itself and the guys on the floor: Tim Duncan, [Manu] Ginobili, [Tony] Parker, [Kawhi] Leonard," Grant said. "I'm a big San Antonio fan."

i agree, no way would they have beaten the bulls, but again the nba is nothing more than street ball these days.but with the one and done kids what do you expect..................nobody stays in college long enough to learn the game any longer.....

This is the 7th time in 25 years a team has gone for a 3peat, Heat clearcut dogs in the series with a true line of -130. Does anyone know what the lines were in some of these series when teams tried to go for 3peats?

'89 Lakers vs Pistons (Guessing Lakers were good favs here, going for their 6th title in 10 years)

'91 Pistons vs Bulls (this was a conference finals)

'93 Bulls vs Suns (Suns had homecourt but they struggled in the playoffs and it was pretty much known the Bulls were a all-time team by now)

'98 Bulls vs Jazz (I am pretty sure the line was pretty close in this series. The Jazz had HCA, had crushed the western conference and the Bulls were coming off a tough 7 game series with Indiana)

'02 Lakers vs Nets (Nets probably the worst team to ever make the finals and this would've been a rd 1 matchup in the West. LAL was like -1000 here)

'11 Lakers vs Mavs 2nd rd series (Lakers were like -400 for this series and got swept)

This info is so hard to find. You can find historical superbowl odds in 2 minutes.

I'm just curious, if anyone has the info I'd like to know it.

I doubt you'll be able to find them with in any type of database or through search.

I was mainly thinking you probably just know a ton of people that have been around gambling forever and would recall.

Here's some info about 2002. Had to dig deep into the archives for this one.

I'll ask some of the guys who have been around longer than I when they get into work today. And you are right... don't see a database that goes that far back. Will see what I can find with some detective work.

Found a really old conversation about a few people expressing disbelief the Jazz were small favorites in Vegas in their series against the Bulls in 98.

Yeah Chicago really struggled with Indiana and Utah waxed the Lakers and Spurs. They had homecourt as well.

Obviously in retrospect that seems bizarre, but thats easy to say after the fact I guess. I feel like I would've pounded Chicago if I was betting sports back then but who knows, short-term results probably put a lot of people on Utah.

Jazz in '98 and Suns were slight favs. Also, I believe Detroit was the favorites vs LA in '89. Don't quote me on the Lakers vs Pistons.

Yeah I'm sure lines were a lot softer back then pre-internet but the Suns does surprise me. The Suns struggled a lot in the West playoffs that year, they came underratedly close to getting swept in that series.
