Wednesday: Finally broke through with a 6-0 day, about +9 units. One of these days I'll update my record. The A's face Tanaka tomorrow, with Pomeranz possibly continuing his slide back to earth- no play- but the Yankees are in trouble. And the A's, are they the best in the MLB? Right now, I'd say yes.

St. Louis -118 ML. 3 units. Really happy to get a reasonable ML bet on this. Ventura had "elbow discomfort" last start, was pulled early, missed a start and now gives it a go. You can bet the Royals and Ventura will be careful with this guy's arm. But elbow discomfort is going to happen when you sling it at 100. He was only at 92-93 in his last start before coming out. What I really like here is that Ventura wasn't doing all that great before the elbow thing. He is a one trick pony, and hitters are waiting on that fastball, middle of the plate. He has not been striking out batters and has given up 5 HRs in his last 27 IPs. He does not trust his command of his off speed stuff.

Wacha is another story. He has the great stuff, but KNOWS how to pitch. A great competitor, with excellent command of his pitches. The Royals don't have much power and don't walk much. They're a bunch of singles hitters, with an occasional double. Wacha is the kind of pitcher who can give up a hit or two, but pitch out of the inning. Get this: Only 2 HRs in his last 8 starts. The Royals are 13-14 at home, and the only thing that they have an advantage here is the BP- although the Cards' is much better this year.

Washington -1 (-126) One unit. Picking on the Phils again. Should this be a 2 unit play? Probably. Two teams going in opposite directions. I like this game mostly because the Nats' hitters have seen Kendrick A LOT. I mean a lot. There is nothing he has they haven't seen repeatedly. And Kendrick has been mediocre this year. Giving up too many fly balls, and his command is not up to par. The Phillies have not seen Fister for the most part. Fister is coming off 4-5 good outings. He gets a lot of ground balls and weak contact hits. Nats the BP edge. Phils just look like they want to get out of town.

Washington RL +120. One unit. The more I read about Fister, the more impressed I am. Excellent preparation- sits down before the game with his infielders and game plans each batter, and where the ball is likely to be hit. Since Fister throws a lot of sinkers, makes sense.

Baltimore ML +102. One unit. Colby Lewis is off his game, although even before his injuries (hip and elbow), I noticed his diminishing skills. Lewis throws upper 80s, and relies on perfect command of his fastball. It just seems as if he's toiling every start. Lewis has also been rocked much worse at home. In May, Lewis has given up 13 walks and 49 hits in just 32 IPs. That's a lot of base runners. The Orioles can stack the lineup with lefties, and they have been hitting well in the past 2 weeks. Tillman finally turned around his season last start. From reports it looks like nothing is wrong. Zach Britton, the new closer?- so far he's been very good. Both BPs are suspect, although the O's has the edge.
