I realize its only June 11 in the college football recruiting wars but what's the old saying, "the early bird gets the worm." Well, the SEC teams are out early and it's showing in Rivals Top 25 List. Six of the top 10 and 12 of the top twenty five are from the SEC. One common motivator among coaches in this league is if you don't recruit...you won't have a job. Damn strong motivation.

1. Alabama.....2. Clemson.....3. Penn State.....4. Auburn.....5. Texas A&M
6. Mississippi State.....7. South Carolina.....8. FSU.....9. LSU.....10. Miami
11. Tennessee.....12. Southern Cal.....13. Georgia.....14. TCU.....15. Nebraska
16. Notre Dame.....17. West Virginia.....18. Baylor.....19. Northwestern.....20. Texas
21. North Carolina.....22. Florida.....23. Ole Miss.....24. Kentucky.....25. Arkansas

* Ex-Vandy coach showing strong at Penn State.
* Baylor is out recruiting Texas...go figure.
* Improved recruiting has South Carolina coming off 3 straight 11 win seasons.
* Mississippi State at number 6...there's a news flash.
* Coming off probation, look for Southern Cal to move up the list.
* Three major Florida schools in top 25.
* Think football's not important in the state of Alabama?

Welcome any comments...................................

I'll be watching Florida's class. I imagine - if Muschamp's not fired - the class finishes in the top 15. Several of the current commits will be reshuffled (re-ranked) by the various services. Just landed an Elite 11 Camp QB (from California). This UF class needs LB's & DE's.

Spurrier's coaching staff has done a great job.

Miami is surprisingly doing well (maybe has something to do w/ UF being in a downward trend).

Bama is unbelievable. Can't believe these kids are convinced to go there year after year to compete w/ other 4 and 5 star players.

Kentucky & Arkansas are a surprise.

USC will definitely move up.

Sumlin continues to do a good job on the recruiting trail.....so when will they finally field a defense?

I'm not a big fan of Franklin, but I hope he does well so they can give Ohio State a run. I'm tired of that conference having an easy path (w/ no competition). Hoke has been a disappointment and I don't expect him to be there very much longer....especially if they lose again to MSU and OSU.

"Bama is unbelievable."

Coach, first the head coach understands and loves the battle and importance of recruiting.
Coach, second the head coach will not hire an assistant who can't recruit and that's a given.

When you see an assistant coach move out, going somewhere else, there's a reason.

Saban is not the best "COACH" in CFB...he's the best organizer, CEO in college football.

CL, I agree w/ the assessment of Saban. His management is amazing.

I will say, Bama uses the "analysts" (and I'm pretty sure Saban created that position) like no one else. It's literally an unfair advantage (these "analysts" are essentially coaches.....no matter what the description of their job duties are). He's literally hired an "analyst" who quits an actual on-field coaching job (at a smaller school, like Troy) to come to Bama and give up their on-field coaching position to become an "analyst". Who does that?

Bama's recruiting since he's been there is very similar to what FSU did during the 90's. They had the best top to bottom, year in and year out recruiting.

I don't proclaim to be an expert on Alabama football because I've been proven wrong...especially during Saban's tenure. Couple years back linebackers coach Lance Thompson bolted Alabama for Tennessee. Talk some crap about how he was going to lock up Memphis and Nashville...and Bama would have the doors shut. Didn't happen but...

Bottom line, Lance Thompson is back coaching the Tide. Why, the SOB is a good coach, but bottom line a BETTER recruiter. No way in hell would Saban take Thompson back without his recruiting skills.

If you coach under Saban....You EARN your high salary.

2 South Carolina schools in the Top 10, Clemson and South Carolina.

Football in the State has stepped it's game up, and now both are taking mostly the names they choose in both Florida and Georgia.

Neither am I. GD am I glad to have him gone from the SEC. He was the closest thing we had in the SEC to Dabo Swinney - a fucking cheerleader. I'm not sold on Franklin as a HC. I think he's a good recruiter, obviously. But he has to surround himself with top shelf assistants because I'm not convinced he can coach worth a fuck. He's a bitch and needs to rein his shit in some.

Well Franklin certainly did a top notch job at Vandy , and i think the Dores are going to miss him. This year may be the last year Vandy finishes bowl elidgible before they fall off the map for a few years.

...but having said that , if i was a Penn St fan i would have much preferred O'brien over Franklin.

We'll just have to see how it all shakes out , but it could end up being a lose/lose for both fan bases.

He did a fantastic job at Candy, took them to heights they've never been before. Definitely not discounting that. But...look at it this way: it's Vandy, he didn't really have any place to go but up. Vandy was the doormat of the SEC for years and years. He came in and recruited well and they performed well and he basically hit his ceiling. Not like you're going to win any conference titles at Vandy. At Penn State, on the other hand, they've had plenty of success in past years. He'll be coaching a much different landscape with much different expectations from the fanbase.
