Was watching this and thought there was no way he doesn't score in that situation.

What was the game situation?

Runners on.... how many out..... score of the game?

This will be contraverial to those who have seen the clip and don't understand baseball.

May have been n silly and self-centered risk by the fielder to make this throw. Turns out great..... but, by no means, does that make it the right play!

Looked up the circumstance…. And here will come the doubters who don’t understand a lick of baseball.

Bottom of the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] with 1 out and score tied 1-1. Had LAA held the base runner they had men on 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] with 1 out…. Pujols and Hamilton coming up.

Runner should have been held.

Cespedes (For the rest of us) makes a grandstand play like many pros do. Needed to hit the cut-off man.
But so much more exciting this way. IF IT WORKS.

I know, I know . takes a perfect throw…. Blah, blah, blah. Fact is big questionable risk sending the runner….. And AT THE VERY LEAST….. Cespedes should have hit his cut-off man to keep the next runner off third base with less than two outs.
Case closed!

Saw a different angle on the replay. Cespedes bobbled the ball and booted it into foul ground toward the wall. probably explains why 3rd base coach sent the runner.

However, makes it quite more obvious that Cespedes should have been hitting cut-off man.

Still.... while not fundamentally correct at all.... still entertaining for the fans.... which is really the key anymore.

This was greatest throw I have ever seen from outfield to burn the scoring run off. Literally robbed!!!

Does this guy show his arm like this all the time or wtf? I had no clue before.

you should have seen me play a few years back. I can't count the number of times I threw someone out at home from left or center field. Its a great feeling I tell ya!

I think a left was batting b/c he was playing far over and had a long run from left field to get the ball. And yes, he bobbled the ball as well.
In a 1-1 game in the bottom of the 8th, i would have sent the runner home in that circumstance as well (runner was trying to score from 1st)

After the bobble, I can't completely disagree.

Without doubt though, the outfielder should have been hitting his cut-off man. Just another indication of the self-centered crap that permeates sports now.

Maybe more pitiful is the fact that TV quite often won't even point this kind of mental error out..... because it is so common now.... becomes the norm.

If that guy would have scored the game would have been over pretty much. The a's struggled all game, i doubt they were going to score 1 run, maybe 2, on 3 outs.

Only makes it more critical to keep the second base runner out of scoring position with less than two outs.

but like i said the game is pretty much over if that runner scores. they barely scored one run on 24 outs, i highly doubt that game goes extra innings if he doesn't make that play.

When you have skills and ability that other people don't have you don't follow the book. No way he should have hit the cut off man he kept his team in the game with that play
