Texans name Ryan Fitzpatrick starting QB; Twitter mocks accordingly

New Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien named Ryan Fitzpatrick the team's starting quarterback on Tuesday.


For some reason, O'Brien decided he didn't need to see anything in training camp from rookie Tom Savage or Case Keenum.


Once the decision was announced, "Ryan Fitzpatrick" was trending on Twitter. Of course, it wasn't because people were wishing him well. Nope, the Twitter snark came out in full force.

watch him go out and dominate lol.

Kind of ridiculous to name him the starter this early and basically tell the other 2 QB's they have nothing to fight for before the season...

He runs a system offense, Matt Cassell made millions after running that system for a season. Fitzpatrick will be fine.

He's a great backup..........One of those betweeners......Great backup, below average starter....Fitz has his moments at times, but not consistent enough.

He's going to be Alright for the Other Team

He is the new guy in town so O' Brien wont get fired. Must have his eye on a 2015 draft qb or Kirk Cousins. Although the 2015 qb class looks weak at this point.

Fitzpatrick isn't awful. He's done okay with very limited talent around him in the past. Houston has Andre and that might be enough to make him above average. I don't think he'll set the world on fire but he should be at least as good as Schaub/Keenum could have been.

Fitzpatrick became the 41st quarterback in NFL history with 1,500 yards rushing. He needed 3 and got 12 on four scrambles.
