One of the Keys to My success is Line Watching. Over the past 12 years or so I have had either Don Best or SportsOptions as a Line service.
I set up the Books that I want to watch, use Pinny as the Opener and watch lines move through out the day/night.

This has made be a better gambler over the past 10+ years.

My Demise in the past and "Sometimes" even now is, I look for the best plays, have maybe 2-3 Plays. But then bet an Extra game because it's close to what I'm looking for.

Totally agree. and I have found myself being a little bit of an Action Junkie... more so when I'm sitting there with no games on the line.
You feel left out. lol

Yup. Today perfect example. Only WC game I really like is Japan tonight, but how do I sit here all day at work with the games on in the background and not bet on them?

Tough to say the least.

Being selective/discipline. If I had those the only thing I would have bet on the last few weeks would be the spurs in the finals which I absolutely loved. Of course I didn't.

However, the pitfalls of online don't help.. If I knew I could say deposit a couple K, hit the series, then withdraw when it was over it'd be different.. The hoops you have to go through make me approach it differently, which makes me keep money in longer with less withdrawals etc.. Which makes me take it less seriously and more action plays. If that makes any sense at all.

I would like to know how the sharps got "sharp".

Great question Vlad!!

Unfortunately the answer is you won't learn anything about "sharps" here. Everyone who claims to be one is full of crap. Don't need to make claims.

And "the proof is in the pudding" does not apply. There is no "pudding" in sight!

Sharps (or even "less than dullards”) don't take time to splash around in the kiddy pool with children like most all of the posters here!

Good points C T!

I believe offshore books create the following problem for players.....

They push everyone to be (or appear to be) a recreational player. This, of course, means smaller units.
The convenience of the whole thing..... and the small units..... allows guys to feel they can make more different plays. This always leads to more losses.
So, I am not saying don’t play offshore. Just be conscious of the pitfalls.

For those who have not had the opportunity....

Walking up in person to the counter in Vegas and laying down real cold hard cash..... is real sports betting. If you are making serious lay downs..... You can use it to your advantage. If you have the bankroll, and are one of the very few who have the ability to really win.... you would be surprised how much more focused you are in the live sports book.

If you young bucks have not had the chance..... even though the books are all chickenshit compared to 10 years and more ago..... they will still take more action than you are probably comfortable playing offshore. Make it out to the desert and check it out. Don't get off your feet.... but enjoy the experience!

The key to success in sports betting, is to beat the closing line. You will lose less money, and if you're really good at beating the market, you can make some money.

Reno,

Don't recall much interaction with you. No disrespect but the following statement is BALL-ON accurate and irrefutable.

The closing line and the market don't mean crap. In hindsight you would always prefer to have the better of the price when you lose, because that is the only time it matters. Of course, I am talking baseball prices or money line prices.

Point spreads sometimes work like this:

They (the lines makers) know more than us (are smarter than us) in the long run. Sometimes (often) the prices that make us VERY uncomfortable are set that way for good reason and tell us that we need to be on the "uncomfortable" side. The other (losing) side is more comfortable and where you feel like you are beating the market. That is because the line moves that way due to all the sheep lining up to get clipped.

Sorry if you disagree. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

What has helped me, and I don't claim to be successful, is having a balance in life. Sure there are times I watch college football al day getting ripped in a bar and betting games for every time frame, but that is far and few.

Now, I place my bets, then do whatever the day calls for. Could be family time, could be golf, could be playing guitar and jamming with my band.

But I will admit, this World Cup has my attention....

Hey Betall and Hache,

Is it just me?....... or, if I do say so myself...... is that one of the more insightful and concise posts on here lately?
