I just had a bad feeling about yesterday, even before the games went off. Padres rookie pitches like an all-star but can't pitch at AAA? There is something about rookie pitching debuts that just defy logic, but they usually pitch well at first. I thought Despaigne was different because he immediately pitched poorly at the AAA level. I'll keep an eye on that one.
Monday: 1-4, -5.71 units Post May 20th: 71-60, +25.19 units
Baltimore -1 (+106) 2 units. The Orioles seem like a team on the rise. If they had better pitching they would probably lead the AL East right now. They hit Chris Sale well, hit Tanaka, and have to have a spring in their step after last night's 9th inning win. Of course, one of the reasons I like this game is that Chicago's bullpen is hopeless. Quintana will go about 5-7 IPs, and then what? Quintana has also had disturbing fly ball stats of late, and he usually depends on the ground ball since he pitches to contact. I also think the Orioles have a dangerous hitting attack, and are getting production out of many hitters. The White Sox were hot earlier in the year, but they have too many ?marks in their lineup or guys that whiff too often. Miguel Gonzalez is never great, but he keeps his team in the game for 5-6 innings, and has pitched very well at home.
Detroit TT over 4.5 (-120) One unit. The Tigers seem to be enjoying their road trip, and now face Colby Lewis. Lewis toils almost every inning and has a PC near 100 by the 5th inning. The Rangers have a good closer, but the middle guys are iffy. They are coming off a sweep by the Angels, a few ejections, and are short on depth pitching and hitting wise. Lewis is becoming an extreme fly ball pitcher and this hurts him at their ballpark. Especially against a team with good power that seems to have an emerging star in JD Martinez, Cabrera, and other dangerous RBI guys. The Rangers just don't have any other options for replacing Lewis.
