Does anyone else feel compelled to blow their head off every time Bill Simmons talks on this NBA draft show.^<<^

Not watching, but I am a big fan of his in general. His book of basketball was a very good read and his articles are usually pretty entertaining.

I like him, he is knowledgeable and follows the league well. Not just his teams

I used to love his writing when he first came out but then it went very downhill and now I cannot tolerate him at all. On television he is even worse. A prefect example of what a little bit of fame and success can do to someone.

He needs to start writing again.. doesn't even do a NFL picks column anymore. Too bad he doesn't realize that he's a great writer and not really good at this other stuff (although too late now with this hbo deal). Plus his staff at the ringer just really comes off as arrogant and unlikeable, and I can't think of one reason why I would care what any of them would have to say about anything.

personally feel like cousin sal should be the sports guy now.

Yeah, Ringer is terrible. Grantland was great.

Re: SG getting back to writing though. I don't think it is that easy. He had his time when he came along and was just far superior to what sports writing was at that time (guys like Albom, Lupica, Kornheiser who really know nothing and just rely on your basic platitudes)

But the internet has matured a lot since SG started and made writing much more of a meritocracy (newspaper are very union heavy thus performance tends to lag other industries) Now you have guys like Barnwell for football, Zach Lowe for basketball, Alan Sepinwall for TV. It has just become more much niche/expert driven whereas SG was more of a man of many traits but master of none.

I just think his time has passed. I don't really care what he has to say about anything anymore, there is far better analysis from others in each field that he wrote about.

idk if it's sports that got less interesting and there's not much to write about or bill simmons himself got bored and needed to branch out to other things

i'm more inclined to lean to the former than the latter b/c the news in the nba is quite frankly boring rn. the gap between the top 4 and the rest are so wide every trade option isn't really compelling. the players are reserved and the rebuilding story lines aren't promising at all. the shitty teams suck incredibly and so much so that it really negates the great individual talent that is in the league. the teams are also very dynamic so no real rivalry has time to develop before people switch teams again. and rightfully so, his podcast has shifted to football which is definitely more fun. in retrospect, the had a LOT of history to write about with guys who have been in the league for decades like kobe, kg, duncan, etc. aside from lebron and wade, melo is a huge disappointment, and steph/klay/draymond is only a recent phenomenon. there really are few polarizing figures to write about and it will take another decade for new angles to develop for intriguing stories for him to come back to the nba. he capitalized on the novelty, and others jumped the bandwagon (ie. truehoop, which i think was really good especially the daily cup that gathered news from around the league). in general it's really hard to generate new content as a journalist, but like i said before, i don't blame him because he doesn't have much to work with these days.

The media would lead you to believe that there's some kinda war going on between Simmons and Collinsworth.... this isn't true at all. Haven't listened to it but Collinsworth was JUST on Simmons' podcast yesterday...

I thought Simmons was funny and brilliant when he was the "sports guy". I don't follow him very closely anymore.

One day this past summer, my daughter was home for a visit. I was shocked to hear her listening to or perhaps watching Simmons on her laptop. She has never in her life followed sports. So I ask her why she is listening to Bill Simmons? She told me that he was so boring that she used him to put her to sleep.

I've been reading him from about 15 years now (but really havent followed much in past 2 years). I LOVED reading his views on MLB, NFL, & NBA even though he hates my south florida teams and that he is a major homer. I also love reading about "nonsense" stuff regarding tv, movies, real world road rules challenge, etc.

He changed after his departure from ESPN and his tv show just wasnt good.

He is an only child who is a product from divorce who was spoiled by his parents.

In the past 2-3 years, he has been acting like a spoiled brat
