2-0 Thursday, + 6 units. The RL and over bets covered but not until the 9th inning. Glad we all won. But… the Brewers are such hackers. Somehow Friedrich struck out 8 guys in 4 innings and also gave up 5 runs. Anyways, I hope I get to see Friedrich again.
Post May 20th: 77-66, +29.69 units

Boston ML -106. 2 units. I can't see any other game better than this one. Workman returns from his suspension for trying to hit Longoria after David Price was NOT suspended for starting the whole thing. Workman though earned the respect of his teammates, served his suspension, and really is a very good young pitcher. I think his teammates will want to bash Vidal Nuno and the Yankees in support of him. Workman is coming off 2 excellent starts vs. Baltimore and Cleveland, and is mature and poised in his demeanor. Vidal Nuno has been the Yankees version of home run derby, giving up 13 HRs in just 39 innings. His home ERA is over 7, and if you take out his 2 West Coast starts vs. Seattle and the Angels(when they weren't hot), he has been gashed all year.

Both Boston and NY are aging teams that might have to rebuild, but believe it or not, they are still in the playoff hunt. The Red Sox have just faced some nasty pitching in Oakland and Seattle, and I have a feeling they are due for a minor resurgence. Their pitching looks improved. Nava and Holt are both hot, Pedroia and others should come around, and facing Nuno could be a good start. The Red Sox also have the definite bullpen edge.

I like that Boston game too, but does it worry you that Workman hasn't pitched in 12 days?

No. It seems that pitchers, coming off the DL or coming out of the BP or from a rehab start, do better than their average outing. Something about a change in routine maybe. I also think the Sox have good middle relievers to rescue him if needed.

Oakland RL +105. One unit
Oakland -1 (-127) One unit. Much of this play is based on the Miami starter DeScalafani(sp?). He is supposedly a ground ball pitcher that has been yielding a far greater proportion of fly balls. In his last 3 starts, 16 GBs to 41 FBs. He's been lucky he hasn't been hit harder than he has. However 15 IPs and 16 runs allowed is bad enough. The A's are patient hitters who work the count, and this kid could really toil tonight. Miami's hitting attack has also suffered. They are hitting .210 for the past week and .232 for the month of June. Their 243 Ks in June are the worst in the NL by 30 Ks. Their many young hitters are struggling with major league pitching. The A's Chavez has been another success story for Oakland. He is a preparation freak, who pounds the strike zone and commands his stuff very well. He has benefitted from great coaching and from feeling appreciated by the team. His bullpen is also one of the best in the AL.

Chicago/ Washington- under 7.5 (-115) One unit. The NL as a whole is going through a scoring deficit of late, if you don't include Milwaukee and a couple of other teams. The Cubs finally have a pitching staff that deserves respect, and that includes their bullpen. Both Hammel and Roark have been pitching very well, both yielding 1-2 runs per start usually. The Nats also have a good bullpen and it's deep. The Nats are hitting .201 and the Cubs .210 for the past week. For some reason, probably the Cubs' improved staff, teams are not scoring in Wrigley. Tonight we should have a decent wind blowing in toward the 3rd base line.

San Diego ML -124. One unit. I'm biting. SD being this big of a favorite? I think the money is coming in on SD for a lot of reasons. One, Brandon McCarthy has been that bad. Some say he's unlucky. However, he doesn't pitch inside, and hitters seem very comfortable hitting against him. The .485 slg. pct. against him is over 3 months. That's not unlucky. I guess his catcher, Montero, also sets up in the middle of the plate too often and makes his situation worse. I also think SD is hitting a bit better and winning a few games, while Arizona continues to struggle, and look frustrated and despondent. I also think Tyson Ross is going to continue to blossom. He pounds the lower half of the plate, has 2 + pitches, and is backed by a much better BP than Arizona's. Now that SD has fired their GM, they are in a mode of "what the hell, let's at least be spoilers".

Unfortunately, so far, Nuno is making the Red Sox look like Minor Leaguers and Workman is struggling immensely. Hopefully those roles can reversed in the upcoming innings.

I guess it would help if Workman stopped throw meatballs right down the middle of the plate
