Rangers vs. Twins
Recommendation: UNDER 8
TheRangers snapped an 8 game losing streak with their 5-4 win in the series openerin Arlington on Friday night. The batting order has simply not been hitting upto par this season, mostly due to lack of talent. Phenom Yu Darvish takes thehill Saturday after a couple of rough outings. The Rangers worked on Darvish’smechanics in between starts and are confident that they have fixed the problem. He should have more movement on his pitches and be back in regular form forthis start.
Yu hasalso been very solid at home this season. He has 2.12 ERA in 7 starts inArlington and shut out Miami in his last home start. He has also pitchedexceptionally well against players on the current Twins roster. Those hittersare just 8/40 with a .200 batting average against him.
TheTwins are in a road slump of their own right now, losing the first 4 games ortheir current 6 game road trip. Phil Hughes, who has been more than the Twinscould have asked for so far, is 5-1 with 2.06 ERA is his starts away from home. With both squads struggling mightily at the moment. Look for this game to stayunder the total behind two very solid starting pitchers. Take the UNDER.

Rockies at Brewers
Recommendation: Rockies +160
This isa classic “live dog” situation and here’s why. Jhoulys Chacin has had someserious problems lately. To be blunt, he’s been downright awful. His biggestproblem has been his command, issuing way too many walks in recent starts. However, against players on the current Brewers roster he has a 2.07 FIP andonly 2 walks. Brewers players have hit only .163 against him in 80 plateappearances.
Everysquare and their mom will be on the Brewers side in this one. Milwaukee is thefirst team to 50 wins and has won 7 of their last nine. They also go for theseries win Saturday after squeaking out a thriller Friday. Even though the BrewCrew has owned the Rockies this year, Colorado is batting .319 against them. Those kind of numbers have to start producing at some point, and with Chacin’scareer numbers against these guys, it might very well be tonight.
TheBrewers have lost the last 3 starts made by Matt Garza. He possesses a FIPnorth of 4.00 against the Rockies current roster. The Rockies have been in atailspin, and “Cargo” is injured, but this team still has one of the bestlineups in the league. If Chacin can limit his walks and make the Brewers earntheir runs on Saturday, the Rockies should be able to pull this one out. Withthe great ROI (Return on Investment) that this line gives us, we’ll take theplus price and play the Rockies.
Mariners vs. Indians
Recommendation: Mariners -122
Interestingtake on tonight’s game between the Mariners and Indians. Offshore books firstopened the line at -150 for the Mariners! My initial reaction was that it was amisprint, because that line was way too high. Sure enough, people startedbetting the Indians like they already knew the outcome of the game. The linedropped very quickly, and now currently sits in a much more accurate range.
But whywould odds makers start this line so high? It’s not like the Mariners are apublic “bet on” team. In fact, it’s quite the opposite in most cases. Theseguys that set the lines are not idiots, and it looks pretty clear to me thatthey were trying to influence one way action on the Indians. I studied the gameintently and will look to play the other side.
RoenisElias is on the hill for the M’s, and he has been very solid all year long forthis team. Elias didn’t even figure to be in the rotation at the beginning ofthe season, but due to some injuries and some excellent product, he hassolidified his spot. Elias is also a lefty, and he usually has great successagainst a team that hasn’t seen him, in this case Cleveland.
JoshTomlin in on the rubber for the Tribe. He’s lost his last 3 starts and reallyhasn’t been anything special. I think this price does offer us some value and Iwill look to the Mariners to come out on top when all is said and done. Takethe Mariners.
