Soccer box scores need fatalities and resurrections

Every guy on the field dies at least once and then as soon as the ball crosses midfield, they come back to life. I love when they bring the stretcher out and the 4 pallbearers carry the guy off, give him the magic spray, and then 5 seconds later ask the ref to let him back in.

All that nonsense aside, I've really grown to love this sport. It is infinitely better than baseball, which I don't even watch anymore. Not many goals, but tons of excitement and near misses. Since degenerates crave the near misses and because there are so many leagues, I would guess this is the ultimate degenerate's sport.

Yeah I know Bet365 use to be the soccer degenerates sportsbook of choice. Maybe it still is, but they don't allow US players anymore. Non stop 24 hour soccer in peak season with all the leagues.

I think the game is flawed.
when a vastly inferior team can basically play an entire game with the singular strategy of having a 0-0 tie after all minutes then win it at the end with penalty kicks I don't like that.

It would almost be like a basketball team playing 4 corners with no shot clock then having a free throw shooting contest at the end to see who wins.

I mean this penalty kick stuff is basically soccer saying this game is not efficient enough to figure out who's better on its own so let's have a kicking contest to see who wins.

It's flawed, but every game is flawed. NCAA tournament is single elimination, and would have 10 different winners if they played it 10 times. The better team usually does win in soccer, but there is always the danger of dominating the game and losing. It's just a game, afterall. We're not talking about solving the world's problems here. I do like it much better than I ever thought I would.

I agree, I hate the ties in an elimination format, I do like the Barclay's League though where the champion is based on the season, with no playoffs.

As boring as that sounds that would be the only way to truly crown the best team year after year.

How different is it then a game going to 4 overtimes and the team less tired ends up winning. If a team is tied for an entire game and a bunch of overtimes - they are pretty equal. There isn't a much better way to end things rather than penalty kicks. Nothing is perfect

Agreed and why soccer is my least favorite sport. If Soccer could fix a few things, I'd probably like it more than Baseball and Basketball, and put it just below Football and Hockey as my favorite sport to watch.

I basically agree with everything you say but soccer is even more flawed.

It would almost be like a low level college football team playing Alabama and there was no such thing as a play clock. The low ranked team would just stand on the field waiting 60 minutes for it to get to the end then beating bama in overtime with a field goal contest.

Of course this could never happen in football because the game is efficient enough to prevent it from happening. But this same scenario is very possible in soccer.

A sport where a ties happen so often is flawed. They need to refine this sport and stop with the bullshit. America basically took all the European sports and refined them and made them better than their European counterpart. The only sport we need to refine now is soccer.

There are things that he would improve. They'd figure out how to make it faster paced. How about get rid of the goalie?

keep the goalie and get rid of some of the other players and open it up a bit, is something I've thought of, but if the rest of the world loves it so much the way it is, why fix it?

One thing I agree with and one thing I disagree with in this thread:

1. I disagree that the game is flawed because some games are decided by shoot outs. Obviously it's not ideal but at some point, the game has to end and a winner declared. In fairness, before going to shoot out, they play 30 minutes of overtime which is 1/3 of a full game. And it's true overtime. Not first to score or limited possessions like football. It's a full 30 minutes plus injury time. Plus it's exciting. And it is actually pretty rare as it only comes into play in elimination style tourneys and not in regular season.

2. I agree about flops. It's brutal. Very un-American and I think we have a much bigger problem with it than the rest of the world. I'm not sure how to solve it. Every once in a while if it's super obvious, the refs will actually card the flipper but that's rare. I don't know why FIFA doesn't step in and issue fines and suspensions especially when the flop fools the ref such as what Fred did in the World Cup opener for Brazil. Call me crazy but I have a bigger problem with that than Suarez biting an opponent. Maybe I'm crazy. I guess it's so prevalent because goals are so extremely valuable in soccer that fans are willing to go along with flops if it gives there team a penalty kick. I LOVE soccer but agree it sucks and gives soccer haters one more reason to hate on the sport.

As as far as making the game more entertaining,mi think it would be as simple as extending the goals 18 inches on each side and raising the crossbar by the same amount. No other changes. FIFA would never in a million years go along with it though. And in their defense, soccer is still the most popular sport in the world so doubt they are in any hurry to alter anything.
