A’s @ Tigers
Recommendation: A’s +121
Theopener of this 3 game set on Monday pits two teams that have been playing greatbaseball of late. The A’s are the best team in the league right now and havethe record to prove it. The Tigers, on the other hand, have gotten right backto their winning ways after a stretch in which they went through a slightslump. The Tigers did just lose their series against the Astros, and MiguelCabrera went 0-13 in the set.
ScottKazmir is basically a win machine for Oakland. At 9-3 with a 2.66 ERA, he goesout there and gives the A’s a great chance to win virtually every time hestarts. Kazmir had a 1.27 ERA is his last 5 starts before getting rocked by theMets his last time out. No pitcher is perfect, and I feel confident that Kazmirwill be back to his excellent form tonight. He also has a very nice trackrecord against the Tigers, pitching a complete game with only 6 hits the lasttime he faced them.
Thesame cannot be said for Anibal Sanchez. He’s gone 0-2 with an 8.40 ERA in hiscareer against the A’s. His stats show that he’s pitched well lately, but hedid give up 4 earned runs in his last start against Texas, a team with a belowaverage offense.
Detroitcomes home after a long 9 game road trip. I expect them to be tired and lovethe plus price we are getting here. Take the A’s.
Reds @ Padres
Recommendation: Reds -125
The Cincinnati Reds head to PetcoPark Monday night as the hottest team in the league. They’re making a strongpush in the NL Central after sweeping the Giants in San Fran and are 6-0-1 intheir last 7 series. Winners of 5 straight, the Reds starters have posted astartling 1.14 ERA during their run.
The motivational factor comes intoplay here as Mat Latos looks to beat the Padres again on their own home turf. Notthat he’ll need it. After recently returning from the DL, Latos went 7 strongwith only 1 earned in his latest start against the Cubs. Latos’ fastball is noticeablydown, something we expected coming back from injury. He will have to adjust hisgame by switching up speeds and locating his pitches because he just won’t beable to blow guys away like he used to. That being said, he should have notrouble working right through the Friars order.
If you have trouble sleeping atnight, watch the Padres bat. This squad continues to be terrible, plating 4runs and hitting .130 in their last 4 ballgames. No surprise that they rankdead last in the majors in RPG and AVG.
San Diego turns to Jesse Hahn inthis spot. Hahn has showed positive signs in his couple of starts at the bigs.He has a wicked curveball that is absolutely baffling hitters right now. Thisplay is not so much a play against Hahn as it is against the Padres offense.Take the Reds -125.
Angels @ White Sox
Recommendation: Angels -144
TheAngels are playing great baseball right now behind superstar Mike Trout. Just acouple days after hitting the farthest home run so far this season, Trout getsto face Hector Noesi who he has great lifetime numbers against. This is Noesi’s3[SUP]rd[/SUP] team already this season and there’s a reason. He’s just notvery good. Here’s a back of the rotation guy who only has a spot because theWhite Sox don’t have anyone else. He doesn’t have good stuff and will more thanlikely be looking for another team come next year.
GarrettRichards has pitched as well as anyone in baseball through the month of June.He is currently 4-0 with a 1.05 ERA this month, good for the lowest mark in theAL. Richards was a huge money maker for bettors early on this season. Themarket has since caught up but Richards still remains a “bet on” pitcher. Hehas a filthy curveball that is one of the best in the Majors for a right handerand apart for Jose Abreu, there’s no one in the Chicago lineup that should beable to touch him.
After areally rough stretch for the Sox, manager Robin Ventura gave the team a lecturelast week. Ventura is a quiet guy who doesn’t usually have much to say. The problemwith yelling at your guys when you have that reputation is that more often thannot it can fall on deaf ears.
Theseare two teams headed in opposite directions right now and we want to be on theside that’s headed forward. Take the Angels.
