Just spent a week in Tamarindo. Awesome locals, great food, great beaches, lots to do. What's not to love? The gringos seem to be driving the prices up a bit though. Not as cheap as I thought but still reasonable.

10 years ago I couldn't believe the prices and would brag to my friends back home as to how cheap it was. Haven't done that for years now. Nicaragua is much cheaper now.

It's funny you mention Nicaragua. I saw a lot of Nicaraguans in the sugar fields and they even had a baseball field set up. Their pay I guess is much higher in CR.

I just back from San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua. Beers are half the price as CR and overall things are 50% cheaper. Hotel room that used to be $12 a night is now $24 but that is possibly because they are filming Survivor San Juan Del Sur right now.

Love both Nica and CR. Just got back from first trip to Honduras. Not bad...but more expensive than I expected (for a significantly underdeveloped and under-tourist'd country). Roatan is awesome. The mainland has a great rain forest. I haven't been to CR since 2004.

Nicaracagua is to CR, what Mexico is to the USA....

Are you spending time downtown San Jose or just the coasts?

Good for you....seems like you had a great time....you should have PM'd Judge Wapner, you guys would have hit it off.....Tamarindo was great 6/7 years ago but I am sure you had a good time even though the prices are a bit high....

Oh yeah and it was amazing. Watched the Costa v. Greece game in a local bar and the place was crazy until late at night. I was happy for the locals.

gallo pinto is all you need to eat while CR. You go there for the beaches and the beauty, not the food.

My last night there we ate at a nice place overlooking the water. It was one of the top 5 dinners I've ever had in my entire life. Great chicken and steak.
