Yankees @ Twins
Recommendation: Yankees -113
TheTwins squeaked out a winner in extras Saturday night after what has been aterrible stretch of baseball for Minnesota. Even with last night’s win, theTwinkies still have lost 9 of their last 12 ballgames and home field is provingto be no advantage whatsoever. They also have a horrible track record againstthe Yankees, who will turn to Hiroki Kuroda on today.
Kurodahas been pretty average this season, although his win total is down due to lackof run support. He gave up 2 earned runs in his last start against Tampa, a teamthat is suddenly playing good baseball. He’ll be up against Ricky Nolasco, whois just a disaster in my book. Prior to his last start, Nolasco had a 6.04 ERAin his 4 previous games. He also has a FIP of 5.77 against the Yankees currentstarters. Not a recipe for success. Take the Yankees.
Orioles @ Red Sox
Recommendation: Orioles +115
Possiblyflying a little bit under the national radar, the Orioles are quite theoffensive juggernaut these days. They rank near to top in the league in almostevery offensive category, including batting average and home runs. Nelson Cruzhad a stellar Saturday, going 5-5 and nearly hitting for the cycle. Top to bottom, this team is getting the job done right now.
Highlytouted prospect Kevin Gausman will throw for the O’s. I’m very high on thisguy. He has an overpowering fastball that reaches 98 mph and has good commandfor such a young talent. He attacks and overpowers hitters, but his changeup inactually his best pitch. One of things that I like most is that when he doesmiss, it is usually down. The slumping Red Sox can’t hit anything and there’sno reason for me to believe that tonight will be any different.
I wantno part of Jake Peavy right now. This guy hasn’t won a start since April, losing his last 7 decisions! He has a 5.65 ERA in his last 12 starts and a FIPthat indicates those numbers are accurate. This is a classic “wrong side”favorite and I intend to take advantage. Take the Orioles.
