Marlins @ D’Backs
Recommendation: Marlins +115
It’stime for Nathan Eovaldi to get back on track. The young flame thrower has hit afew bumps in the road recently, but this is a great spot for him to get back ontrack. Eovaldi has enormous potential, and is finally starting to live up tothat potential this year. He’s a pitcher that misses a lot of bats, with a fastballaround 98 mph. His fastball is obviously his best pitch, but it’s the developmentof his other pitches that is making him rise to stardom. His command can beshaky at times, so as long as he keeps the walks to a minimum, Arizona shouldhave a tough time doing damage against this guy.
On theother side is Josh Collmenter. He’s had surprising success in my opinion. Here’sa guy who throws straight as a line and his fastball tops out in the high 80’s.He’s gotten through orders by hitting his spots and letting his defense takecare of the rest. The more teams get to see Collmenter, he becomes easier toscout and hitters can make adjustments. The Fin’s should have no problemputting the bat on the ball today. Taking advantage of runners on base shouldbe the difference in the game, something the Diamondbacks struggled withyesterday, going 1 for 12.
For whateverreason, the D’Backs don’t play well at all at home. Chase Field has not beengood to them, and this game sets up well for Miami to win its 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]straight series. Pitching edge to Miami here along with a slight offensiveadvantage. I’ll take the underdog price tag with the Marlins in this one.
White Sox @ Red Sox
Recommendation: White Sox -118
As Iwrite this piece, Chris Sale is currently the favorite to win the last spot onthe AL All-Star team. How this guy isn’t already on the team is beside me, ashe has the lowest WHIP in the AL and sports an 8-1 record with a 2.16 ERA. Hetook a shutout into the 9[SUP]th[/SUP] inning against Seattle his last timeout. I have to believe that the only reason he’s not already on the team isbecause of the time that he was out with an injury. In any case, I believe thisis a positive for taking Chicago here, because he goes out there with a chip onhis shoulder and with something to prove. Not that he needs it.
Thedismal Red Sox have lost 7 of 8 including the first two of this series. Theyjust can’t hit. There is absolutely no offensive production and they’re closeto playing for exercise as they continue to fall farther down in the standings. They’ll turn to Rubby De La Rosa to try and help stop the bleeding. De La Rosahas quality stuff for a big league starter, mixing up a variety of pitches well.He just won’t get any run support, which makes it impossible to back him here.Take the White Sox -118
