Fighting words? Floyd Mayweather on Ronda Rousey: 'I don't know who he is'

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he never heard of UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.



In March, UFC star Ronda Rousey joked with an LA-based radio station that she could beat boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. by staying low to the ground and doing some "monkey crawl" moves from "Bloodsport."


A few months later, UFC president Dana White took that challenge a bit more seriously, declaring Rousey "wouldn't beat him. She'd hurt him badly" if Mayweather ever set foot inside an octagon.


Too bad the multi-division boxing champion wouldn't be able to distinguish Rousey from Adam.


"I don't know who he is," Mayweather said (at about the 36-second mark) during the following interview:

When explained that Rousey is a female UFC star, the boxer threw up his hands in bewilderment: "I ain't know who that is."
Are these fighting words?

I bet the first time she takes his ass down and puts him in a headlock he would know who "he" is.

he's too quick, and wouldn't need to land a "solid" shot to hurt her badly. he also can't win here... good for himt o just brush the talk aside, no way flpyd is gonna even approach talking about hitting a woman.

I am not a mayweather fan but this puts him in a really awkward spot. What is he supposed to say? "I will bust this bitch's front teeth out and bend her ass over while she bleeds out from between her legs"

And I think he knocks her out 9 times out of 10. she probably submits him 1 out of 10 times. I think he is simply faster and stronger and way too skilled as a striker.

I think the lost storyline in all of this is how the UFCs popularity has declined over the last 1-2 years. So now the way to get a cheap headline is for Dana and Rousey to go on TV and talk about the guy who did comparable PPV sales by himself in 2013 as their entire company.

Kinda sad they need to bringup a woman fighting a man rather than just put on good cards.

Especially since 2 years ago today he was in jail for domestic abuse.

Agreed. No win situation for him here. He handled it the best he could. He should tell her that she is cute when she's mad.....women love to hear that.

Pretty cringeworthy read. I was aware of his arrests but never have seen the details explained chronologically like that

Definitely will be using an illegal stream for his next fight.

Floyd knows exactly who "he" is. He's probably cashed some tickets on "him". He's just throwing out a quote that could be used to market a fight between them, somewhere down the line.

There will never be a fight between them. Ever. No one would ever sanction it.

Floyd probably knows who Rousey is though.

Probably not. But I would have loved to have seen a white woman beat up a black man for once..

Mayweather would crush rousey. I'm a flat bettor and I would pit my entire bankroll on it. Granted its a dumb argument to have and Dana white is a joke

Floyd would never take a chance of going into the ring with her. If they just put the gloves on then Mayweather would knock her out in one. But in the octagan he would be playing her game by her rules. One misstep and she could ruin his career. He's not going to do something where he has little to gain and everything to lose.

I'd give Rousey like a 25% chance at MMA. If he can grab him she wins since Floyd doesn't know shit about defending takedowns/submissions, but Mayweather will probably be too fast and all he'll need is a couple punches to end it.
