Reds @ Yankees
Recommendation: Reds -102
We’llturn to Johnny Cueto in this day matchup as the Reds look to turn things aroundon the road. We all know Cueto is one of the most dominating pitchers in thegame today. He’s gone 5-1 with 2.45 ERA in his last 7 outings, with Cincywinning 6 of those contests. Cueto also leads the majors in opponent’s battingaverage with a stellar .181 mark. He owns Derek Jeter, who is hitless againsthim. This game will come down to whether or not the Reds can provide him withsome run support. With Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips sidelined, the Reds arestruggling to put numbers on the board, especially with RISP.
Cuetowill be opposed by Hiroki Kuroda, who is the only man left in the Yankeesoriginal starting rotation. Kuroda has pitched well lately at home, but hisstuff is far below what Cueto brings to the table. The Yankees have been veryproductive the last couple of games, getting clutch hits and coming throughwhen the situation calls for it. That kind of good fortune has to change atsome point and that balance will begin to pan out today with the Red’s ace onthe hill. Expect a low scoring contest due to Cincy’s current offensivestruggles, but the Reds will come out on top after 9. Take the Reds.
Red Sox vs. Royals
Recommendation: UNDER 8
Expectanother pitcher’s duel in this one as two top of the line guys take the moundtoday. Runs were hard to come by Saturday, and we’ll see a step up in classtoday with Jon Lester opposing Yordano Ventura in the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] game ofthe series. Lester is 3-0 with a 1.01 ERA in his last 6 starts. He’s also gonedeep into the ballgame in each of them, which means we likely won’t have toroll the dice with the Sox bullpen for long today.
Offensehas been an issue for the Royals all season. We see the potential on thisroster, but runs have been hard to come by and that offensive deficiency won’tget on track against the potent Lester. The Red Sox have been underachieversall year long and it will be a tough task to put runners on against Ventura.Ventura has been somewhat inconsistent this year but when he’s on his game hisstuff is incredible. He almost never gives up more than 3 runs and should haveno problem running through Boston’s offense. With the Sox playing decent ball aside play seems like a tossup. We’ll take advantage of a great under opportunityon Sunday. Take the Red Sox-Royals UNDER.
