Why haven't we been back? It was in the 60's when it happened, our technology has gotten better, so why haven't we gone back?

I don't want hear that we explored it once & there's nothing to see. If it was a hoax, it was done at a time when this earth needed something spectacular to happen to help the human race out a bit.

IMO, I don't think man will ever go to mars, far too dangerous & too far in distance.

.

because it was never a science motivated thing, it was always a political thing, the russians were doing it , you can not allow the russians to put a commie 'godless' flag over the Moon that shines on the God Blessed America every night.

It was expensive THEN it is even more expensive now ($109 billion dollars in 2010 dollars), there is no reason to do it, hell, you dont even have a way to reach the ISS right now!

NASA's budget keeps going down while the morons from Wall Street keep getting bailouts......

about the Mars thing, we simply HAVE to go somewhere else, anything happens to Earth and we are toast, staying on Earth forever and we will end up the same way as the dinousaurs, whether we do it ourselves (destroy the planet) or a giant rock from the sky lands on us and thats it. We need to be in more than one place.

If so, a mighty good one. I was living on Keesler AFB at the time. My father was stationed there for 2 years before heading back to Nam for his 2nd tour.
My older brother was also stationed at Keesler at the very same time. I remember as a kid my dad driving me down there to visit him in 1969 right after hurricane Camille came through there and pretty much flattened everything along the entire Mississippi coast. I've never seen anything like it..

From what I've read, it takes about 260 days to travel from the earth to mars, that's a long time in a space shuttle.

The isolation, boredom, & whatever else that you & your team will be under is nuts.

Unless NASA builds a faster shuttle to get to mars, say like getting there in 30 days, then I could see people going.

It takes like 3 days to get to the moon & look at all the problems we had before sending man & during.

Im wondering what kind of catastrophes the astronauts would encounter, if any during their mission to Mars.

I don't think it will be done in the next 50 years because the funding is definitely not there & mankind has enough problems on this planet, why go mess up another one......

Seeing as how we have to hitch a ride with the Russians to even go into space, I think it's going to be a long long time until we try to conquer space, if ever. The country doesn't seem to have the enthusiasm for space travel anymore like we did back in the 60's & 70's.

There are several projects underway to shorten the time. Curiously enough, the Costa Rican hero (this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Chang_Díaz ) is busy building it, his labs are in Guanacaste

Lets keep this in mind, crews in nuclear submarines are used to missions of quite a few months at a time. There has been extensive research into the psychology of isolation. Many other problems exist, such as the amount of food you would need to carry etc etc.

The problem is, one of these days.........
will take us down and we wont even see it coming

I remember watching that video & thinking, what if it was a big one, there goes most pg life on this planet as we know it.

Watching that video giave us a wake up call.......this can also happen to other planets.

Wouldn't it be crazy to be living on mars only to have it destroyed.

I have a question.......why are billionaires & high ranking officials all over the globe building bunkers that go deep into the earth. They have been building then for 20 years & most are done & equipped with food & water to sustain people in the bunker for several years.

I'm wondering if they know something that they aren't saying, like an asteroid hitting earth, etc.......or maybe they're just preparing for an economic collapse that will set off a chain reaction of chaos on earth.

If there is an asteroid, meteorite on collision with earth, we would think we have the right to know as tax paying civilians but me saying that statement is a complete joke, they don't have to tell us anything. It would cause worldwide panic & chaos if they announced the possible extinction of mankind here on earth.

Forgot to mention that some of these bunkers are like small cities......they have a theatre, a dentist office, doctors office, pool hall with video games & pool tables, basically everything we have above ground in life, they have in some of these bunkers. You can buy a room in one of these bunkers starting at $250,000 if I'm not mistaken. They take your money now but how would you get to it when chaos breaks loose?

Anyone see the movie Gravity starring Clooney & Bullock?

Pretty insane movie......in reality, none of us will ever understand what its like to be an astronaut & to work on satellites .......

I want to see this movie in an imax 3-D movie theatre to get a good feel of what these astronauts are experiencing in the middle of space.

Can't begin to understand what its like to be floating out in space & looking back on earth in awe at the sun rising over the earth.

Also, like the one astronaut that floats away as the other astronaut watches in despair. Imagine gloating away into the abyss of darkness & just a matter of time before you run out of sit & die........its like an LSD experience w/o the drug. It would be so intense.......
