You're absolute right about the ridiculous percentage eBay & pay-pal take out. Its a compete joke!

Since 2009, eBay has lost some big time sellers that I've read online because of the increases of their take out.

Craiglist should start up an auction site like eBay & half like half thettake out price, it would hurt eBay a lot. Thing is, there's no competition for eBay online, thats why they can charge so much.

I've never sold a thing on e-bay. What do they charge? Does it depend on the price? How much you sell?

I sold a baseball card for 1450 and ebay/ppal fee total was around 175....

Ebay and ppal fees total 13%

As for craigslist, good friend of mine made 9500 profit over 1 month on 3 pieces of heavy equipment.....

Wow, 13% total......if my memory serves me correct, wasn't it like 9% for both like 2 years ago & a lot smaller of a percentage in 2006?

Craigslist has alot of pitfalls though...people never show or blow you off about 100x more often on CL then ebay..the fees are horrible on eBay and only getting worse but like someone else said shipping is the dagger...paper items or media mail items are the best ways to avoid usps racket. You really gotta factor it all in...i sell alot and literally there are times when I buy for 10 sell for 30 and literally break even...i would go long eBay until some form of competition exists

StubHub is just as bad as Ebay...10% of the ticket cost, plus other convenience fees all get tacked on to the final price. Can get costly if you buy a pair of tix to an expensive sporting event like a playoff game.

I haven't put anything on Craigslist in a while. A few years ago, I had a big picture tube TV in the basement that was never being used. I was in the process of a man cave build and bought an HDTV I would use down there on occasion, so I put the TV on CL for $40, hoping for just one response. I literally got two dozen e-mails within an hour, and ended up selling the damn set for over $100 because a couple of guys got into a bidding war via e-mail.

Scams are rampant on CL though. Buddy of mine got scammed out of $900 for a pair of playoff tickets to a Lakers game. The tickets didn't work when he got to the game, he called the number which worked a few days earlier when he bought the pair and it was no longer in service. Felt awful for him.

13% is simply ridiculous & eBay owns pay-pal........these big corporations are extortion business at its finest.

Maybe extortion is a harsh word because no one forces us to use eBay but you can't help to a little upset with what they're charging.

Only difference between the mob running a racket & eBay/pay-pal is eBay & pay-pal pay taxes on the enormous charges they install in their customers.

Ebay started on Sept. 3rd 1995 (i didnt think thete was muvh to the inyernet back then)

The percentages were low first 12 years & then sky rocketed.......

O won't sell anything on Craig's list because the last thing I want is some wack job showing up at my house with a gun & robbing me.

I see people selling high end products like $25,000 diamond rings on Craig's list......that's insane. Aren't these people scared of getting robbed?

I can understand selling a car or video games on it & metting up at the mall but no high priced jewelry, etc......

I guess you could meet up at the mall to sell jewelry but no thanks, too risky unless you take a few friends with you.......
