“I wouldn’t have taken him,’’ Tony Dungy, the former Tampa Bay and Indianapolis coach, told the Tampa Bay Tribune’s Ira Kaufman. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”

You see Tony as being very honest. May not be popular.

This is in some way just a publicity stunt by the St. Louis Rams and the NFL. This kid pretty much showed at the combine that his skills will be very questionable.

At any rate...... way too much baggage to take on. Dungy is right!

The kid also showed in games that he has talent which is why he is being given a chance. The combine has shown many times that it should not be the only thing used deciding who gets drafted.

Baggage? It's 2014. I really don't think it's as big as some make it out to be. You don't win defensive awards in the sec for nothing. Hope he does well.

The kid also showed after he was drafted that he loved him some bitch cracker ass. I bet Tony had this in mind when he made those comments.

I think Tony Dungy is partially right.

I think the baggage is a negative for M Sam. But you have to judge how much the person is as a net whole. So a very talented player with baggage beats out an average player with no baggage but doesn't beat out an equally talented player without baggage.

It depends how good the next guy is to determine if he is worth it.

Is this the same Tony Dungy who said that people like Riley Cooper should be given a second chance? Something tells me his faith doesn't accept gays and he is very hypricritical.

Dungy very religious guy... One of the bigger stories/situation of the whole Sam thing is how religious a lot if these locker rooms are.

He wasn't saying Sam shouldn't have a chance in the NFL like Vick. Simply saying he wouldn't have done it.

Don't blame him...who need the sideshow and having to answer 100's of additional questions all the time. Not like the guy is a great or a game changer at this point.

I would rather have him on my football team rather than some jerk

I totally agree. Kudos to Dungy for saying out loud what everyone else is thinking.

Hey, maybe his measurable aren't great. But, I will say, if you can perform at a high level in the SEC, you are a player.

Time will tell.
