[h=1]Colorado Sells $19 Million in Cannabis in March: $1.9 Million Goes to Schools and Crime Down 10%[/h]THE MIND UNLEASHED

All the naysayers who were against marijuana legalization are eating crow about now. Colorado’s weed sales just keep trending up, and with the sales of legal weed, they are improving their schools and reducing overall crime rates.
Not counting medicinal weed sales, Colorado sold nearly $19 million in their recreational weed market in the month of March, and $1.9 million of that goes straight into government coffers and towards building schools.
At this pace, according to PolicyMic, Colorado will make $30 million this year in pot taxes alone.
What’s even more promising is that these numbers are still low estimates, as the recreational and medicinal marijuana markets (coinciding just fine, take note Washington) are likely to keep trending upward. Many say that a figure closer to $60 million in weed tax revenue is a more likely assumption.
Medical marijuana is also not as heavily taxes as recreational marijuana, and hopefully it will stay that way.
The cherry on top of this tax-generating cake? Crime rates are also down in Colorado, so while kids are hopefully going to get a better education, the government (idealistically) will spend more money improving infrastructure and other business opportunities for Colorado citizens, and unemployment rates are plummeting. The Colorado police can take a little rest from their duties.
Crime rates in Colorado have dropped by 10.6% while Dunkin Donuts has begun expanding its brand in the state (really). It looks like a really good future for people living in Colorado, or any state that legalizes both medical and recreational marijuana – though it is admittedly too early to tell.
Read: Colorado Crime Rates Down 14.6% Since Marijuana Legalization
Is it ludicrous to conclude that perhaps happy, smokers of marijuana have no time for violence and expend their energy elsewhere? Probably, but it’s looking more and more like a reality. When you legalize this plant, people have less to be angry about–and less angry people means less crime.
The only draw-back of legalization in Colorado? It’s snowing in May. But only Nancy Grace would attribute that to ganja and not global warming. And whether Nancy and the haters like it or not, more recreational dispensaries are coming to Denver, Boulder, and beyond.
According to Weedmaps, there are currently 97 recreational dispensaries in Colorado, and that number should hit 100 in the next few weeks – likely climbing higher. And higher. And higher.

Raise your hand if you believe for one second that this money will get to the schools, as stated.

Also..... this just in..... The reason crime was down 10%......... More than 10% of the cops where HIGH during their shifts and failed to arrest or detain anyone. This 10% in addition to the group that were already asleep after eating their allotment of donuts.

I'm impartial ... But if all this isn't skewed.. then I am suddenly pro-legalization. However, I imagine that the drop in the crime rate is basically marijuana arrests... I guess what I am saying is I'd like to see the type of crimes and the % +/- of each one

This is absolutely a social experiment. Im curious how it all turns out...

Has one of these places been robbed yet? I know its an all cash business. be shocked if armed robberies haven't taken place yet.

Big law suit brewing. One of the new marijuana stores wanted to use the slogan....... "This Buds for You!".

Might as well laugh at the situation.... What's it gonna be next...... You can sell your kids into slavery...... if the government gets a piece for taxes?

I want to see every state follow this path.......legalize all drugs/prostitution/gambling & get rid of several agencies that feed off of the poor & addicts (which was & is a total waste of tax payers money)

Lots of unworthy people will be out of a job......& the local police can focus on more important crimes & eating donuts.

Do you really think that most of the money from lottery proceeds goes to senior citizens & anywhere else they state in their commercials?

How about those cans with kids pictures in front of the can showing kids with cancer that says donate for a better life......I've asked several people that drop those cans off at Walmart & restaurants & they said that only like 5% needs to be donated while they can pocket the rest.

Its all a scam if you can get away with it but I would believe the weed growers & smokers of Colorado before a politician in Washington.

Maybe everyone's too tired from.the weed & have no motivation to plan a roberry.......

But if these were crack dens, then the drivebys would be insane & the crack heads would be roaming.

That's my point Man. I don't believe any of this crap. Just seems like the government will sign on for almost anything now..... if they can collect enough taxes.

Add to that the fact that they don't feel obligated to really put the money where they are supposed to...... pretty good gig for them, I guess.

I should say....the government will sign on for almost anything now..... except online gambling. They are too damn stupid (actually too corrupt) to do that. You know.... all those comped suites and gourmet meals...... and hookers, or whatever else they use to sway the politicians...... it is working as far as keeping the gambling with just the companies involved right now.

Politicians are 99.9% corrupt w/o a doubt......I know the mob/corporate high ranking business men running casinos & illegal bookmaking have more than a few politicians in their back pockets, its sick!

You would think if they legalized sports betting& poker here in every state in the US, the taxes the govt would make far surpasses the money they receive in their suitcases but these guys only think of themselves & not this country/govt.

If they legalized all gambling in every state, think about the money these politicians would lose personally from voting against these bills.

Whoever said crime doesn't pay, hasn't worked as a politician.

Group..... I think that is one of the most brilliant and well written posts of all time.

That is one that shitbirds should be bumping years from now (and not something stupid like we see from time to time).

Because this post will have meaning. Probably the exact reasons why, in our lifetime, there will be no legalized on-line gambling in the United States.

As defying mentioned, 10% sounds nice, but lets have a breakdown of the crime in that state, Im also of the opinion that alot of the decrease in the percentage has to do with no arrests regarding Marijuana crimes in that state.

Think about this, 50% of the drug arrests in this country are for pot. Legalizing pot would significantly cut down the prison population. In the few states who have already legalized it, it's putting a huge choke hold on the Mexican drug cartels. But in the short run it's going to be nearly impossible to make legalizing pot a federal law because there are WAY too many businesses and government agencies that are making a profit by keeping pot illegal. Government run prisons, the companies they outsource like utilities and food services etc.. Even the DEA would like for it to stay illegal so they don't get their budgets slashed and have to lay off workers. This is almost like prohibition. The federal government will want to keep in illegal until they can find a way to make a profit off of legalizing it.

Not bothering the Mexican cartels at all...they would rather bring over more expensive products(byweight) than some sorry ass weed.

It's not only putting a choke hold on the cartels, it's crippling them. They are losing billions of dollars in Colorado alone. It's getting to the point that even the farmers want to stop planting because their wholesale prices have dropped from $100 a kilo to $25. So the farmers make next to nothing for a profit. And the cartels themselves make 40% of their profits from marijuana alone. So this takes a huge chunk out of their business. If they legalized pot in enough states, the cartels will disappear as fast as the bootleggers did after prohibition.

Not even close...they would much rather move Meth, Coke, MDMA or heroin than weed.

Legalizing weed (which they should) will only make cartels more profitable in the long run. This isn't 1970 anymore

Losing billions in Colorado alone???????? That's some laughable shit there. Ever since Colorado made psuedo ephedrine illegal... the cartels have put all the meth labs out of business and making billions.

[h=2]'This Is Working': Portugal, 12 Years after Decriminalizing Drugs[/h]By Wiebke Hollersen

Twelve years ago, Portugal eliminated criminal penalties for drug users. Since then, those caught with small amounts of marijuana, cocaine or heroin go unindicted and possession is a misdemeanor on par with illegal parking. Experts are pleased with the results.
