KEY STAT: Silkeborg scored an impressive 67 goals on the way to the Danish second-tier title last year

EXPERT VERDICT: Silkeborg made an impressive start to their campaign by holding title favourites FC Copenhagen to a draw last week and are capable of frustrating Brondby with a similar performance. The second-favourites for the Superliga title were convincingly beaten at Midtjylland last week and look set for another stern test.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

MLB Comp Pick for Monday, July 28, 2014: 8:05 PM ET

MLB (965) NEW YORK YANKEES VS (966) TEXAS RANGERS

Take: UNDER

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Monday, July 27, 2014 is in the AL contest between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers. These teams have reputations of being strong offensively, but not this season. The NY offense has been a big disappointment, 23rd in runs scored, 20th in on base percentage with little power (22nd in slugging). The under is 35-15-3 in the Yankees last 53 vs. the American League West. Spot starter David Phelps has been pitching well of late and has so far resisted a return to the bullpen. Texas has offensive problem, too, 15th in runs and OBP, 19th in slugging. At least they have ace Yu Darvish going, who has a 2.49 ERA at home and has a 1.32 ERA against the Yankees the last three years. The under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings. Your Bonus Play for Monday is on the Yankees/Rangers Under the total.

Monday Bonus Play 7:10 PM MLB

(969) MILWAUKEE BREWERS at (970) TAMPA BAY RAYS

Take: (969) MILWAUKEE BREWERS +120

I’m not big on letdown spots in baseball. That scheduling dynamic seems to be more applicable to football than a daily grind game like baseball. But if there is such a thing as a baseball flat spot, this could be it for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays finally lost a game yesterday, and it’s not unusual for teams to lose a couple or a few immediately following the conclusion of a very long win streak. Also, this was a series against the Rays without a doubt main rival, and I wonder about the intensity level with a team from the National League now coming in for a series. One things that’s certain is that there will be loads of good seats available tonight as the Rays still draw flies and unlike the Red Sox fans who love visiting the Trop, the Brewers are not what one would call a major attraction.

Beyond the situation, there’s also a pretty fair pitcher catching a nice price here. Kyle Lohse has had a terrific year for Milwaukee, and the Brewers are a robust 15-6 when he takes the mound. It’s surely not a blowout as Jake Odorizzi has come on impressively for TB. But I have to give Lohse the slight edge as far as the starting pitching is concerned.

Obviously, the current form advantage has to be given to the home team. That’s why it’s tough to argue with the Rays being the favorite here. But I thought the opening number on this clash was inflated and even at the present tag, I see a little value on the Milwaukee side. I’ll bank on Lohse doing his usual thing and perhaps a bit of a letdown from the Rays. The Brewers at an okay underdog price are the choice as the Monday comp opinion.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants

1* Bonus Play San Francisco Giants-154

After getting swept at home by the Dodgers over the weekend, I think San Francisco will bounce back with a victory tonight. The visiting Pirates will send journeyman starter Vance Worley (3-1, 3.10 ERA) to hill; Worley has pitched well since joining Pittsburgh but should have his hands full with a motivated Giants lineup. Note that Worley holds a pedestrian 4.09 ERA in 22 innings pitched versus San Fran, giving up six earned runs over six innings his last start versus it. The Giants counter with Madison Bumgarner (12-7, 3.19 ERA) to try and get a much needed win; the southpaw is coming off a strong start against the Phillies in which he went eight scoreless for the victory (note that Mad Bum has won three straight starts overall). And Bumgarner has always fared well against the Pirates, he has strong 1.71 ERA over three starts despite a 1-2 record. Pittsburgh played in Colorado just last night while San Francisco will be playing the fourth game of a six game home stand, the scheduling definitely plays into our favor. Consider laying it on the Giants with Bumgarner.

Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs

Bonus Play Chicago Cubs -132

I'm backing the Chicago Cubs on Monday. Yohan Flande makes his 5th start for the Rockies. When the left-hander made his first start of the season, we went against him, won with the Cardinals, and wrote that Flande is in the "bigs" for two reasons and two reasons only: 1) He's a lefty. 2) The Rockies' rotation was in shambles. We have played against Flande twice and won both. The Rockies are 0-4 in his starts thus far and he has been tagged for 16 earned runs and 32 base runners, lasting a grand total of just 20 innings. The four Colorado opponents scored 7, 8, 7, and 9 runs in those outings and I expect the Cubs to score more than enough to back Tsuyoshi Wada. The Japanese left-hander has one good outing and one bad outing under his belt in 2014 and will face a hamstrung Colorado lineup averaging just 3.2 rpg in road night games against southpaws. Not only are Troy Tulowitzki and Justin Morneau on the D-L, but Carlos Gonzalez is also questionable with a sore ankle. The Rockies have won just 16 of their last 57 road games against lefties and the Cubs are 19-7 in their last 26 home games against Colorado. I'm recommending a play on the Cubs on Monday night. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

WNBA Indiana Fever vs. LA Sparks

Bonus Play Indiana Fever +5½-110

Los Angeles is just 3-9 straight up at home and just 7-20 ATS in its last 27 at home. They are led by Candace Parker and Ogwumike. Guard Kristi Toliver has been inconsistent and the team just fired coach Carol Ross and now is led by their GM.

Indiana is 14-11 ATS but leader Tamika Catchings has been out for about half of the Fever games. She as well as Zellous and Larkins are main scorers and rebounders. Indy scores average 75-76 while LA's are at 78-78 so both have had some close games on average.

Look for a close one on Monday. Take Indiana plus the points as our Bonus Play!

#1 A. P. STEEL (ML=5/2)
#2 HOWIE ROLL (ML=7/2)

A. P. STEEL - Sanchez drops him down to this level. You don't need too much more data to figure that this animal has a good chance at this level. Ranked at the very top in earnings per start (EPS). Another indicator that this horse has the class to take this race. HOWIE ROLL - Stokes and Short have had fabulous success together over the last twelve months. I like the fact that this gelding's last figure, 43, is tops in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 TRAILHEAD (ML=3/1), #4 PENNTASTIC (ML=4/1),

TRAILHEAD - 3/1 is not enough of a reward to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back outings. PENNTASTIC - Hard to back any horse with decreasing speed figures of 44/37/13.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - A. P. STEEL - Me and my good buddy, Solo Steve, love to bet on sprinters on the quick turnaround.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Go with #1 A. P. STEEL on top if we're getting at least 3/1 odds

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 6 BET U CANT FIND ME 4/1

# 8 MY WILDEST DREAMS 3/1

# 3 JERSEY FRERE 6/1

I think BET U CANT FIND ME is a strong choice. Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this pony look decent in this outing. The trainer wheels this horse right back to race again. Has posted reliable speed figures in dirt sprint races in the past. MY WILDEST DREAMS - Solid average Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races make this pony a solid choice. Should be given a shot based on the respectable Equibase speed fig recorded in the last contest. JERSEY FRERE - The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Millersaul running at this distance are the most respectable in this group. With Baez in the saddle guiding her, this filly will most likely be able to break out quickly in this contest.

#4 MIAMI CAUSEWAY (ML=5/2)

MIAMI CAUSEWAY - Don't often see a profitable return on investment like +44. This jockey/conditioner tandem has done well together over the last 12 months. This racer should go right out to the early lead and may never look back. Could wire the field. This gelding is number one in earnings per start (EPS). Take a good look at this horse in the saddling ring. I am keen on that most recent race on July 16th at Suffolk Downs where he finished second.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TAPE DECK (ML=3/1), #2 CHIEF AGAIN (ML=7/2), #5 GRAVE (ML=5/1),

TAPE DECK - This thoroughbred likes to be there at the wire, but doesn't usually win. Keep out of the top spot. Difficult to take this racer at the odds after the finish position (fifth) in the last race. GRAVE - This animal doesn't have a conquering nature. Regularly finishes in the place or show spot.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - MIAMI CAUSEWAY - With the highest last speed rating of 66, this gelding looks exceptional against these ponies.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Put your money on #4 MIAMI CAUSEWAY on the nose if you can get odds of 1/1 or more

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 1 LA VERDAD 2/1

# 7 MY WANDY'S GIRL 7/2

# 3 R FREE ROLL 4/1

LA VERDAD looks quite good to best this field. She has to be given consideration given the respectable speed figs. Rice has one of the top winning percentages in this group with entries running at this distance and surface. She looks very strong in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the halfway point. MY WANDY'S GIRL - The average Equibase class figure alone makes this one a solid contender. This mare obviously likes the distance, going 8 / 14 in her races recently. R FREE ROLL - With Lopez uptop her, this filly will most likely be able to break out early for this event. Ran a strong last race.
