Dee Milliner: I'm best CB in NFL

Dee Milliner's confidence evidently was not shaken by his inconsistent rookie season with the New York Jets.

Milliner, who will enter his second NFL season as the Jets' top cornerback, told the New York Daily News that he believes he is the league's best player at the position.

"The best corner in the league? Me," Milliner told the Daily News in an interview Saturday. "I ain't gonna say that somebody else is better than me."

A first-round draft pick who was benched multiple times last season, Milliner made positive strides down the stretch in 2013. He clearly feels that his late-season surge will carry over into 2014.

"I'm not going to say somebody that plays the same position is better than me," Milliner said. "Don't care if they've been in the league 10 years and I've been here five months. That's how it's going to go.

"I'm the best. I'm not going to say that another man that plays the same position ... and say he's better than me? I can't do that."
Milliner's lofty aspirations also include an eventual place in the Hall of Fame.

"I want to be great," he said. "That's the difference between the players that are in the Hall of Fame and not in the Hall of Fame. ... You want to do great things. That's what I want to do."

Milliner figures to be tested early and often in his second year, as the Jets will have to contend with some of the NFL's top wide receivers over the first two months of the season, including Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, Brandon Marshall and Jordy Nelson.

But Milliner claimed that he is "not worried" about any expectations placed on him.

"They say the pressure is on, but I ain't worried about it," Milliner said. "I'm not worried about pressure. I go out there and do what I'm coached to do."

Last December, Milliner was selected as the NFL's defensive rookie of the month after getting 27 tackles, three interceptions and 13 passes defensed. He was also the AFC's defensive player of the week after intercepting two passes in the season finale at Miami.

"I love the way he ended, but there's guys that never get on a field and nobody talks about them," Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters Saturday. "Did he go through growing pains? Absolutely, but he was in the fire.

"So, right now, it's nothing to him. He's out there, let's go. And his teammates, believe me, they're definitely confident in Dee Milliner."

News flash Miliner. Taking a Geno Smith pass to the house in practice doesn't make you great.

You gotta have tons of swag to play CB nowadays though. Short memory, chip on your shoulder at all times

So I like it, gotta have that mindset

Yes you have to have swag but not cockiness to play the CB position & you also will have a target on your back acting like these guys do.......the social media picks up everything you say on Twitter, practice, etc.....& they blow it up making you a target.

If I was an athlete now a days, I wouldn't want any cameras in my face & I would control what I say.......I definity wouldn't have a Facebook or twitter account, but knowing the athletes today (the instant gratification generation) the love the publicity whether its positive or negative.

Why doesn't he just say nothing? I'd rather him say nothing than to look like a fool. So, in a two-day span, you have Geno Smith saying he's a top 5 QB and Milliner saying he's the best CB in the league.

Where does your water come from up there Pats Fan?

Maine I think. The bottled water comes from Maine.

It's just a throwaway comment at training camp because you get asked the same stupid questions by reporters over and over. Not like he is holding out and saying pay me as if I'm the best CB in the NFL.

also lol @ at a Seahawks fan having a problem with guys talking themselves up. Sure they can justify talking now because SB champs but they were talking long before they won a playoff game. After they beat the Pats a few years back Sherman ranup to Brady and said "YOU MAD BRO", lol.

Think you said it all and when you are the best at your position, you can say whatever you want to say.

Your selective memory is rearing it's ugly head again Pats. How come you didn't mention that in that game Brady told Sherman and E. Thomas "to come see him after the game was over." You forgot that right? So, Sherman came and saw him after the game. You don't think Brady talks?

When did I say I had a problem with Sherman doing that? Or Brady talking? Just saying Seattle is/was a team that has a lot of talkers like the Jets. I like when guys talk, sports is entertainment to me besides the gambling aspect. Why when Sherman had his WWE rant I said it was funny rather than "OMG HOW COULD HE DO THAT" One of the best rants ever that NOBODY remembers is Bruschi went nuts after the Pats beat the Colts in the '04 playoffs, he was like "MAYBE THEY CAN CHANGE MORE RULES, MAYBE THEY CAN CHANGE THE WEATHER NEXT TIME, THEY SCORED 3PTS, HAHAHA" Can't even find it on youtube, sucks...

I don't have a problem with any of these guys talking trash really. If you gotta play Calvin, D Thomas, Marshall and J Nelson the first 2 months of the season with the rules in their favor, you better think you are pretty good. If you get sick of answering the same quetions over and over at training camp and feel like stating so, more power to you.

Also being a defensive player in the NFL is just a weird dichotomy now if you think about it. Why Sherman cultivated his "heel" persona, your 1 of the best in the world at what you do, playing the most popular sport in America, yet nobody really knows who you are as a defensive player in the fantasy football/stats, etc era.

I think that is why you see a lot of guys popoff on twitter. NFL is just so popular but so many of the players are kinda anonymous besides the skill position offensive guys and of course QBs.

Well i agree , but , its not like he called a press conference to announce this , he was asked the question by a reporter with the NYDN. ...So instead of having a problem with a player answering "me" , i have a problem with the reporter for asking such a stupid ass question.

...I mean really , if you're going to ask a player who the best in the league is would;nt you ask a veteran player instead of a 2nd year player ? ...numnut dumbass reporter.

I agree.

He's right. Gotta have that mindset. Prepared for this since he was child and now made it to the biggest show of em all. Wouldn't let anyone tell me differently either.
