they aren't tossing out easy lines week 1. It just can seem like that afterwards because they have very little info to go by at that point. If you look at the lines, they don't deviate much from basic power rankings/win total order much.
As season goes on lines get tighter as more info/knowledge is gained

I always wonder if we will have another year in the NFL like in 2005 where the favorites covered like 60% of the games if I'm not mistaken.
Like Pats stated, the lines are weak in week 1, its not that Vegas wants to lose in any weeks but you gotta think they need the public to win certain weeks or the gamblers wouldn't return to play if they lost every week.
