Seattle's Richard Sherman has long maintained that he's a better cornerback than Arizona's Patrick Peterson and a more dominant player than San Francisco's Michael Crabtree. Now, at last, he may have hard numbers to back him up.

The NFL is rolling out the initial phase of a tracking system that will allow fans to view a wide range of statistics about their favorite players, including speed, routing, distance traveled, and separation.

As reported by USA Today, each player will wear two small sensors under the shoulder pads, and the sensors will track the players' movements throughout the game.

(And ONLY the game, which should bring a sigh of relief to quite a few players.)

[h=1]The NFL Has Some Questions About The N-Word[/h]
Refs said preseason will be barometer, a test. There are questions about players using N word ending with R vs N word ending with A

You know what this means, right? Among other things it means that at some point, somewhere in the offices of the NFL, some poor schmuck will have to sit down with a bunch of Randall Kennedy books and a copy of Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip and write a memo clarifying the difference between "******" and "nigga." And that someone will have to put it in braille for Jeff Triplette. And that, thus educated, a crew of mostly white referees will spend their Sundays monitoring for schwa sounds. This is going to be something.

Cleveland rookie Johnny Manziel struggled in his second game, although he didn't start. He did lead the team to a fourth quarter drive that saw him toss his first touchdown pass of the preseason

"We pray for (Ray Rice) and his wife and his family," Roethlisberger, who has had his own issues off the field in the past, said. "The biggest focus is the game on Thursday, because that's really all we can afford to deal with right now with such a short week and notice. And that's the most important thing for us now, is what we can control."

Steelers lose off field 5-2 on arrests Rice left hook not included but win on-field 27-17

Anyone get flagged for using the "N" word.......

Colin Kaepernick’s mouth needs some cleaning, according to one NFL official. The side judge during Sunday night’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears called a 15-yard penalty on the Niners quarterback for inappropriate language he displayed after throwing an interception to Kyle Fuller.

Ravens QB Flacco misses practice

Owings Mills, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was absent from Wednesday's practice with what the team said was an illness -- reportedly a cold that's not expected to sideline him for this weekend's game in Cleveland.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh was asked if he expected Flacco back soon and said, "I don't know. We'll see."

Flacco, now in his seventh NFL season, has never missed a game. Not having him around was strange to some teammates.
"It was weird," said defensive lineman Haloti Ngata. "(Linebacker Terrell Suggs) and I were thinking, like, we've never actually been at a practice without Joe Flacco being out there. Whatever he has going on, I hope for all the best for him."

The Baltimore Sun reported Flacco's illness was a cold that isn't regarded as serious.
Also missing practice for the 1-1 Ravens were defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan (knee) and tackle Eugene Monroe (knee). Cornerbacks Asa Jackson (concussion) and Lardarius Webb (back) were full participants in practice

Chalk up 0-3 for Lovie Smith and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

down 17-13 to the Chicago Bears.

The Jets could—and barring something unusual, should—have gone into the break with a 20-17 lead. The team has every right to be miffed that it didn't.
With just over a minute and a half remaining in the half, Jets linebacker David Harris sacked Bears quarterback Jay Cutler near midfield. The ball popped out on the play and was promptly scooped up by Jets linebacker Demario Davis with a clear path to the end zone.

However, officials blew an early whistle, incorrectly ruling Cutler down by contact. The play was reviewed and overturned, which was the correct action for the situation. The problem is that since the play was initially whistled dead, the would-be touchdown never occurred

NFL officiating guru Mike Pereira once said he'd never throw a flag on a player who knelt in the end zone in prayer because he "didn't want to get struck by lightning."

That same belief wasn't shared by the crew working Monday night's Chiefs-Patriots game.

In a move that is sure to generate some discussion, Husain Abdullah of the Chiefs was flagged 15 yards after kneeling in the end zone in Muslim prayer after scoring a touchdown off an interception of Tom Brady. The unsportmanlike conduct penalty Abdullah received sparked a quick outrage on Twitter where it was noted that plenty of Christian players mark their scores with a sign of deference, reflection or tribute to their higher power.

Abdullah took the high road after the game and said he thought he was penalized for sliding into the prayer, though the head referee cited "falling to the ground on the knees" in announcing the infraction

A home underdog?

That's not a familiar role for Bill Belichick and Tom Brady but that's the reality for a struggling New England Patriots team getting ready to host what has been the best team in football, the Cincinnati Bengals.

New England failed to crack the 300-yard barrier for the third time in four games

37-year-old, three-time Super Bowl winner has reached what is an inevitable decline for any athlete and the one battle we all eventually lose, the fight against "Father Time.

Pats have the 29th-reanked offense in the NFL, Brady's 79.1 passer rating is a dismal 29th in the league and he's connecting on what projects to be a career-worst 59.1 percent of the passes

Cincinnati is just too well-rounded in all phases to lose to a Patriots team which can't seem to get out of its own way offensively

Bengals 27 Patriots 17 oops 7
