my story

I used to be a fun guy to be around, but gambling has completly taken over my life....im gambling every other day, im gambling on sports, poker, roulette, slots and anything just so long as im gambling. I have never won a substantial amount in my life (most being around $1500) and on average i lost that every month.

I first started gambling on slots machine's when i was 16, i thought at the time it was pretty cool it was only for fun on 25 cent slots etc, then i started upping the stake and started roullete and the rest is history, by them time i was 18 i was addicted to gambling but i still felt in control and like most people thought i could stop as and when i wanted to, boy was i wrong! 35 years on from when i first started here i am...the same problem, i actually dont understand what drives me to do it. Im self employed and im ok for money, i never win anyway 9 in every 10 times i lose. The problem is i check foots results and have started alot of inplay betting and if i sat there and checked yesterdays results i'd always think i would have betted on teams that fell behind and came back to win, which meant big wins but the reality is as and when the money hits my online account booom i cant wait for the right game or the right time to place my monies, i literally just put money on any team that seems capable of winning...ok less of this rambling.

Lets get onto the problem, so im 52 im single i dont have a gf and nobody really to really speak to about anytype of addiction, i start gambling and when i do i go absolutley crazy i'l lose all money as i have done tonight, i borrowed money off a family member who has bills to pay etc just to carry on and promised them id give them it back i turn into a monster i mean just thinking of what ive done i feel disgusted with myself, i feel its pathetic that a grown man isnt in control of his actions and unfortunatly for me when im gambling i lose all control...pathetic!!!

I used to want to start a family but i do not save any money at all, i dont know how im going to cope when or if i have a family unless i completly stop this dirty filthy addiction!! I can never win because i cant ever stop, if i have $50 in my pocket i feel like i have plenty of money to see me through a few days as opposed to having $500 in the online gaming account seems like pennies just waiting to be dropped, its unbelievable. Ive been on these type of websites before and read loads of stories and i feel sorry for all the guys/girls who have had broken families due to this addiction and as much as i dont ever want to be in that position i feel thats exatcly where im heading, as i dont know why i gamble....i mean would you gamble if you never won? like i mean knowing even if you do have a win its only a temporary hold your keeping for the house before it takes them all back, like last night i was awake till 7am slept till 11am woke up and have been online gambling all day (i dont gamble while im at work, well rarely) and i feel absolutely sick to the stomach, chucking money away when that money could be used to feed homeless people, provide clean water and shelter and all these things for people less fortunate. If i win a sports bet, i will carry on playing poker all night until i lose it all, and im absolutely useless at poker, why do i play it? i just dont understand.
The worst thing is, if i dont gamble for 2-3 days and think im getting better my personality shines then all of a sudden i will have the devil himself whispering in my ear, telling me to try a little bet on a team and take it from there.

Dont know what to do, going to start a diary and update it every night just to take my mind off things, i want to be able to stop this filthy addiction, before it ruins my life. i wont be gambling now for around a week anyway as ive just lose like $1200 in the last 48 hours. I hope im strong enough to beat this. YOU CANT WIN CAUSE YOU CANT STOP!!!!!

You've taken the first step in that you realize you have a problem. The next step is to get help.

Go to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting and continue to go. Get a sponsor and when you feel that itch or urge, make the phone call instead as if you were calling a bookie, except it will be your sponsor.

Most people end up like you have because they are bored. They don't have anyone to interact with thus they find solace in sports because you have a set of announcers that is talking to you. While you aren't directly interacting, you are likely saying come on so and so, strike em out or we need a hit an error, a wild pitch to get that run home. With online poker you can be what you want to be. A fish, a maniac, a nut and you can talk crap to people that will never know you outside of a screen name.

The real danger for you is this forum and others like it. Sure you will get some people like myself who want to try to help but words only go so far. It only takes you a scroll down the forum list to see the service play area or the other sports areas where people are chatting about games or posting their picks. You read something you like or it makes some sense and then bam you are on your account wagering away and the cycle continues.

You've made the first step, the next one is to close your betting accounts, your poker accounts, online casino accounts and be sure to have them send you the self inclusion forms so you can't go back.

You can beat this and there are people to talk to for help and getting an understanding of what you are going through. These people have gone through it as you as are now. Don't feel embarrassed or ashamed. You made the post and it screams please help me. I am glad you made the post, because most won't and people that poke fun or shit on you because of the post are jerks. Ignore those posts.

Take my advice and start helping yourself today. Get to a meeting, make a call (click the button on the webpage for the #) and feel better about yourself and take back control of your life before it is too late.

Also you're not too old to get into a healthy relationship. You just need to go to the right places and meet the right girls. Bars and clubs aren't what you need. If you go to church or join some clubs you'll be amazed at the nice women you will meet. Heck even some really good looking ones.

I am a PM away if you need to chat.

Hey Ever……… Sorry to see your post and wish you the best.

You and I have even locked horns on here a couple times, I believe.

I can add a couple of sad things that I think will help.

Some see me on here as pretty much a pissed off old man. Some understand that I have valuable points to offer. Both are really correct.
I have won and lost over the years, as we all have. Thing is with me, I truly have played big and won much more than I have lost.

What I have learned is this……
We can spend too much time and lose in worse ways than financially.

In addition, under today’s circumstances, money is so hard to move around and it is so hard to find books to be trusted……. Even when you know you can win significant money the stress is still about getting paid.

I have severely had my limits cut….. had accounts closed all together……. Not to mention flat out being stiffed all together for 10s of K.
Don’t travel continually any more like I used to. But I know a man can’t even play anymore in Vegas like you might really want to. Companies are still looking to limit you or cut you off.

I enjoy spending some time on the forum. But my frustration with these young pups on here….. it’s not just that they are full of shit, are not real players, and have no idea what they are talking about. It’s that they SO WISH to be a BIG DOG…… and they have no idea what sort of trouble they are headed for.

Work at it and get yourself straight, Everfresh. I wish you well. Be assured there are more frustrations and problems with this “hobby” than the ones that are obvious.

Good luck Buddy!

At the very least, you need to delete your online accounts. I realize it's not as simple as that to quit cold turkey but you at least have to make it a little bit more difficult to place your next bet.

A lot of good free help out there online.

Step one is realizing your problem. The next step (actually stopping) requires more work.

Both of these are necessary courses of actions sir. You have been on this forum for a decade, it took guts to start this thread. Take the very very sound advice being given to you and move forward sir. Good luck to you

Get off this site, which is not what some would want to hear! You will read about locks, guys who had a great week and think that could be me and jump right back in, and you will continue to go around and around the mountain....

Sorry to say.... probable great advise. The constant bull-shit soap opera on here is sort of interesting. But will be hard to totally to ignore the very rare real sports betting content.

I've been lurking and posting here for over 10 years. Even when I was in the can I tried to keep up with what was going on here. I can't leave
