First musician that comes to mind is Stevie Ray Vaughan. He had sobered up and gotten off drugs. And it felt like he was just starting to hit his stride with his last album In Step when he tragically died. Much of the same can be said for Buddy Holly. He made all of those great hits in just 2 short years. It would have been amazing to hear all of the great music he could have made over a career.

Saw Vaughan in concert about three months before the plane crash. Great concert. Didn't think that would be the last time I would ever see him.

If the list was expanded to anyone instead of just celebrities, I'd like to bring my mom back. Twenty years after the fact and I still miss her.

Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American musician and singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll."[SUP][/SUP] His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably the Beatles, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.[SUP][/SUP] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Holly number 13 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.[SUP][/SUP]

Well before my time. I was born in '67 - eight years after this cat died. If you know your rock and roll history and you have an open mind to travel back in time a little bit, Buddy is the true King.
