Our league had our draft last week, and a guy drafted Josh Gordon in the 12th round. This was at the point in time where he was definitely going to be suspended, but NFL didn't state if it was going to be a few games or a whole year. General thinking was that it was likely going to be a year, but it's a keeper league where any pick taken in the 5th round or later and kept on your roster all year can be kept as next year's 5th round pick. So it was a smart keeper draft pick with potential upside this year if he got a small suspension.

Last week NFL ruled he was suspended for a year, and a few days later the owner dropped Gordon.

Today there are rumors that NFL drug policy may be changed, and that could mean Welker and Gordon could possibly have their suspensions removed. A different owner picked up Gordon tonight since he was a free agent. Anybody in the league could have picked him up at that time first come first served since he was not on waivers because he didn't play any games yet.

The question is -- is this a legitimate pick up that should be allowed? There are three possible rulings:

1. Gordon should be given back to the original owner since he drafted him, and only dropped him because the NFL may possibly change their own rules.
2. Gordon should be ruled ineligible for the whole league since he's a top 10 WR that may give someone a big advantage
3. Gordon should stay with the owner that picked him up in free agency since there was nothing technically against the rules about it.

This is a money league, and we want to get a ruling out before games on Sunday. Thanks.

3 and i can't believe there's two other outcomes on this. new guy took a gamble and as of now a guy that's still suspended and probably will be for the year is taking up one of his roster spots. fantasy football is all about gambling on what might happen with players. the first guy chose to drop him it wasn't like you guys forced him to do it so he's fair game for anyone at that point. if the first guy is really concerned tell him i'll take under .5 snaps played by gordon this year straight up for his entry fee.

New guy gets him no question. That shouldnt be an issue. The only issue I could see is if he is considered a keeper now. But since he picked him up and not drafted him then no.

3) sounds like this is what your rules allow, you can't make exceptions unless the exception is defined in your league constitution

it's really your only option to protect the integrity of the league, can't make things up on the fly

Pretty clearly #3

Player status is very fluid for the entire 4 months. Guys values can drastically change overnight, it happens.

hands down 3, original owner should have stashed him all year....suspension or no suspension gordon as a 5th rounder next year would be killer

Obviously therx thinks #3 and I concur.

But where are you hearing the Gordon rumors? Any validity? Hell, I might try and pick him up in my league.

There is no dispute. The guy that picked him up off waivers gets him.

This is another one of the reasons I stopped playing fantasy years ago. Always some cry baby bullshit in the league

As the commissioner of my league I have found this out over the years as well.

yes, the NFL and players unions are negotiating new terms, definitions and suspensions which would reduce his suspension if they come to fruition

Thanks. Might as well go pick him up then. The slight chance his suspension will be reduced to 8 games far outweighs the potential of your worst bench player.
