WESTMINSTER - A Huntington Beach woman who was caught on video having a loud argument with her boyfriend, knocking him off his motorized scooter and backing into the scooter with her truck was charged today with driving under the influence of methamphetamine.
Laura Angela Cox, 47, is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on misdemeanor counts of DUI with a prior conviction, use of a controlled substance, domestic violence battery and vandalism under $400, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Cox was arrested Monday following the weekend posting of a video of the argument that was recorded by a neighbor who heard the commotion. The video went viral on YouTube, with more than 1 million view.
On the video, the woman can be seen screaming at her boyfriend, who is sitting on a motorized scooter parked behind her truck. She screams at the man as he tries to calm her, then she knocks him off the scooter. The woman then gets in her truck and backs it into the overturned scooter.
In interviews with various media outlets, the unidentified man in the video said he was simply trying to stop Cox from driving drunk. He also insisted that he was never struck by the vehicle. He told ABC7 the woman has mental illness issues and had stopped taking her medication.
Prosecutors plan to ask that Cox’s bail be set at $20,000. She faces up to four years in jail if convicted, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
