Am I the only one that has never heard of a "switch" in beatings?

I seriously had to look it up....and it isn't easy to look up....google and google images show fucking network switches and light switches. I heard the boy was playing a video game so at first I thought he was whipping him with a controller and some button was cutting up his legs.

Is it because I live in Hawaii and this is common terminology?

I swear for a little while I thought everyone in the world didn't know what it meant but they didn't want to be the dumbass asking what it is so the passed on the word "switch" when they explained it to the next guy and it grew from there.

i did not exactly know what a box cutter was on 9/11 figured some sort of razor blade utility knife but had to look it up to see the actual picture.

In the deep south, it was called a hickory switch. My great grandpa would threaten us as kids to take a hickory to our backside. Never followed through with his threats, but it was the term. Before all this AP stuff, I haven't heard the term in 25 years.

My dad used to belt me so hard I had purple marks on my skin for more than a week.

I'm not saying I turned out fine but I probably deserved some of it.

I had no idea until I joined the Army. Wee used to play a game while we were in the woods called hide the switch. One guy would hide it and everyone else would go searching for it. The guy who found it got to whack whoever he could until they got back to home base. It freaking hurt and I was glad I was from the north. A spoon or a belt hurt but that thing took off skin and left welts for days.

Never heard of it til now. It was just belts and hands when I was younger. Definitely nothing like getting hit with a tree branch though, lol.

I am sure Peterson ONLY beats his kids. Probably doesnt pay child support to the pure sluts either. Vikings should have traded him when there was value. When your best player is your RB, you will never go very far.

Same here, I remember it very well and can still feel the sting. Same with my friends in the neighborhood. Mom would spank my brothers and me and we would laugh but when the old man came home, we were sweating it. We turned out fine and until the day he died, I would have swam the English Channel for him. My kid brother (14 years younger) got away with bloody murder and he was the only one that had problems in early adulthood. My old man told me that he mellowed as he got older and just couldn't bring himself to take a switch to the back of his legs.

Times have changed but damn, I deserved an ass whipping when I got them. I'm tough on my son because the world is tough. My wife babies our son and she can't figure out why he won't listen to her. There's some credence in the saying "wait til your father gets home.

Put me on the jury and AP probably walks.

It's a southern thing. An ideal switch is approx. 3/8" and 3' long. It should be green. And when you swing it, you snap your wrist. If you do it right you can hear that 'whiff' sound that it makes. When it strikes your skin it stings and will damage the top layer of skin. It will not cause a bruise. Most switchings will be applied around the thigh area, at daytime, and during the summer months. Belt whoopings usually happen at night.
