So I cleared up a space to update to the new ios. I backed up it everything before deleting any photos or apps. I then went and cleared a bunch of space. I installed the new ios and connected it to itunes. Well as soon as I did that it starts creating a backup of the ipad. In other words it deleted the old backup file where I had all the photos and apps.

Is there anyway to recover. I never had the iclod turned on. What bothers me is that itunes automatically backs up as soon as you plug in any device. Now I've lost a ton of pics over 2 years of photos are gone.

You should be able to view your various backups if you used iTunes...

How? It only shows one backup. I can't find any back up from before I update to ios 8.

Look in one of these folders.

[h=3]Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer[/h] The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:

  • Mac: <tt>~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/</tt>
The "<tt>~</tt>" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
  • Windows XP: <tt>\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\</tt>
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
  • Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: <tt>\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\</tt>
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

I did all that already. Guess it can't be done. What a joke. I already asked the apple boards and nobody answers.

It pisses me. If I buy another tablet it won't be an apple. Does samsung make you jump through hoops with their devices? I have never liked itunes as the program that connects apple devices to the computer.

Did you not find files in that folder?

When you choose Restore from Backup it should give you the option to select an older backup...

it can be done but it's hard to explain on a board.

Go to your local Apple Store and they will recover them for you for free

It's not terribly complex but if you can barely turn your computer on this might not be for you.

My wife wasn't backing up her phone and it broke but we used a product called WonderShare Dr Fone and it was able to mount a broken iPhone and undelete a bunch of stuff including pictures (and again this was on a broken iPhone, should be a piece of cake for a working one).

I even got the program for free as it's out for example torrents.

Good luck

I already tried that program and a bunch of others that look for deleted photos. No luck. Im accepting it as a loss of photos and trying not to use itunes ever again. Fuck apple

You must be doing something wrong as I am 100% sure your backup is on your computer somewhere. When iTunes does a backup, it does not write over previous backups. DId you try clicking shift & clicking the restore button at the same time as it should open automatically to the folder with backups & let you choose which one you want.
