Pressure is on Will Muschamp (as usual) for Gators’ game at Tennessee
By Jonathan Czupryn Special to the Palm Beach Post
GAINESVILLE —
It’s not precisely clear when Jeremy Foley decided Ron Zook’s program looked “out of control” a decade ago.
But when Zook lost at Tennessee in Week 2 of the 2004 season, it was the beginning of the end. Foley fired him before the calendar turned to November.
Given that the Gators haven’t lost to the Vols since then, this week would be a bad time for coach Will Muschamp to test Foley’s patience again.
Muschamp said Monday that Saturday’s visit to Knoxville is crucial — just like every game.
“They’re all must-wins,” he said. “When has it ever changed?”
The Gators (2-1, 1-1 SEC) will be fighting to avoid a second consecutive conference defeat while trying to build on a nine-game winning streak against the Volunteers.
Tennessee (2-2, 0-1) appears to be stronger than it has been lately. Second-year coach Butch Jones had his team on the brink of toppling No. 12 Georgia on Saturday, and senior Justin Worley threw three touchdown passes in the 35-32 defeat.
