You bet the dog at a larger + number than the favorite is at on the - side.

Make sense?

So I bet $100 on each and make 5 if the dog wins and break even if the fave wins. So no way to lose for me? Is that the idea?

yes or you adjust where you make $2.50 on each side no matter what happens

There really isn't any easier way to explain it.
The best thing you can do is put the #'s in Excel & see it for yourself.

Example
1.3 x 100 130 (The winning side in scenario #1)
-1.2 x 100 -120 (The losing side in scenario #1)

Then reverse the #'s (other team winning) to see what your risk & options are there.
